2005 td4
searched the forums on this one and find a clear answer, so here goes. It's obvious that chipping improves performance, but would chipping make your engine less prone to turbo problems (or any other typical td4 reliablity probs)? What do you people think?

Mine was chipped in october 2001 and up till now (fingers crossed and knocking on wood) no problems whatsoever. With the extra power/torque it is a more relaxing drive now.

I fitted a go faster gismo [just as good as a re chip, my thoughts] on a auto box, runs like a dream, infact the auto box is a lot smoother. . .:)

I guess my question is based on what I've heard about the bmw td4 engines as used by landrover- i.e. the freelander engine management system doesn't do them justice. So that's why I ask. But then again I am a mechanical moron:)

Mornin Mondeo - gotta get mi own back sumtimes -hope the recovery issuccessful.
i seen yu advertising on tv - yu called the "munney honster"?

Thought I' d put my happeth in.
Used to drive a commercial TD4 Freelander (Job) an was so glad when it was traded in for a new Puegot! Now in a different job and drove 1500 miles plus in a 03 TD4 Commercial last month (light body I know!) only this time it was chipped with Britpart chip.....WOW what a difference... just couldnt beleive it! Asked the guy that regularly drives it, who said he has had no problems since its fit 2 years ago. Didnt realise that this chip can be adjusted to even higher torque... gawd blimey guvnor!

Thanks for the replies... I'll probably end up doing something to the engine although no doubt will wait til the warranty runs out (two more years)... still wondering if chipping or whatever actually is good for the engine as in making it more reliable. It would be interested to see a comparative between chipped and unchipped engines ...
