I got my Def 110 2002 td5 ecu optimized by Stockholm Chip Optimering. It cost 300 £ and in combination with blanking the egr it has become a new engine!!
Fuel down from 11 l / 100 km to 9.5 l / 10km. ( 30 mpg?ish) Nominal effect and torque 155hp 400 Nm.!! One can go on fifth gear in steep highway hills where I had to shift down to 4th gear before. In terrain and low gear one can go on idling over ditches really sneaking on low rev through forest tracks like a ghost.
If you are in doubt to optimize your ecu, don't, just do it! It is obvious original software doesn't make justice to the great td5 engine.

put a larger(performance) intercooler too... and then will be 100% perfect...you'll gain at least 10% more power...and protect the engine better

And a full bore exhaust so the turbo spins up faster. Diesels dont like or need back pressure like a petrol engine. Ideally you should run with an open pipe straight off the turbo exhaust outlet but apparently its anti social and somewhat illegal?

but can i buy one of these somewhere? ...could you point me in the right direction please...i dont care about the legal side of it:D

Got mine from gary at TD5Alive tuning. Full stainless and very good quality. Sold my old stock stainless exhaust and got 2/3 of the cost for the new one back.

good point:)...is it more noisy inside the car now?...and what about the improvement? ...do you have better throttle response or something?

No noticable change in cabin noise. Sounds a bit throatier outside but nothing to upset anyone including MOT man. Throttle response is crisp with very little turbo lag. I did fit the exhaust at same time as intercooler and remap so have no direct comparison before and after.

I did the exhaust before the intercooler / remap. The exhaust makes the turbo lag absolutely minimal, the larger intercooler increases the lag slightly. I have a boost box, but haven't taken the boost higher, it's at 1.2 now. I believe that taking it up to 1.4 would reduce the turbo lag again...

A VNT would reduce the lag too, but you're looking at a lot of money then :)

That's essentially what they are talking about. It's a straight through pipe that bolts in place of the silencer. weld in pipe... same difference, except you can't unbolt it. :)

I have the pipe, just need to get off my bumm and install it.

I did up the boot to 1.4. Really really glad I did :)
