Will be fitting the CP to the wings, sills and rear quarters this coming week and been looking at getting the gaskets for under the wing top pieces. Is it worth it? or will a bead of the good old silicon sealant do the job? Will be fitted with rivnuts and bolts. anyone tried it with silicon? If not might just plump for the gaskets.

A lot of people use nothing.
I have used silicone on mine. Haven't had any problems so far.
Seem a bit expensive to buy the gaskets

I wouldn't bother using anything. The ones I took off mine were standard Land Rover and hadn't caused any corrosion after being on since 1998.

Doing it as I am a professional photographer and its useful to use as a platform the bonus is that it will cover up the dents and scratches that are already there. Practical reasons before cosmetic.

I'm not really a fan of CP but yes it can be useful.....I meant I don't see the point of putting a gasket or sealant under

I was thinking it would help stop cr*p getting underneath over time. the holes that are drilled will be sealed before the rivnuts are inserted, though it might help prevent vibration damage between the two surfaces too.

Mine is just bolted through now with the bolts that came with them from Paddocks, the ali is so thin you don't need to worry about vibrations cos it will just bend it upwards to meet it.

The problem you have if you put silicon in is that it will be very difficult to get it water tight, so there is the chance that you will get water under it and trap it in.

Def worth having CP though, I stand on mine all of the time.

Dum dum compound is good, if you don't want to pay for the neoprene gasket. Silicon is ok, but will probably turn to powder after ten years or so

Cuts down massively on noise. Every little cavity on the body will amplify mechanical noise! ;):)

I like CP as well - colour coded.

I would seal all bar the bottom edge on the bonnet and wings. Reason - mine collects water beneath the plate and even on a bone dry day if it has been raining I get a constant stream of splashes onto the screen from the leading edge.

When I repaint her I will definitely PVU the top and sides of the bonnet.

I ran a bead of clear silicone around the edge of the c/plates and let it cure before bolting to the panels. That way it works as a sealing gasket to keep crud and water out but if needs be you can get the CP off again with no hassle.
