Hi, firstly I must point out I am only the typist! The Discovery is a 1998 300tdi ES, having done all the big jobs to get it running, he was tackling
the niggling things, the rear electric sunroof wasn't working so he removed the motor but couldn't get it going so gave up, just after that the "check
engine" light became permanently on, there's a lack of power and none of the wipers are working! he has checked all the fuses and they are ok - could it be a relay? and if so which one (if I understood his expletives correctly - there is a lot)
The other problem, quite un-connected, is that the "kick down" is not working, I did download the RAVE but that didn't help him, he thinks the cable may be seized so any help on this also would be greatly appreciated
:5bbanghead:
many thanks
Sheila

Hmmm

Not being a 300tdi auto expert, and particularly this one that has what's called EDC (electronic diesel control) I can't help immediately.

Obvious things are to check the kickdown adjustment.

It might not be kicking down if there is no power available though.

Regards the wipers, check the obvious but then id be accessing the motor to check i had good supply and earth there, could easily be a buggered motor.

Yep, sunroof motors are susceptible to water damage caused by leaky sunroofs. You need to get a good earth as mentioned ^^^, and check the supply with a multimeter to make sure the switch is ok. Basically you need to be logical - fuses ok? power supply to switch ok? Power out of switch ok? Power at motor ok?

Re the 'check engine' lamp, you need to get a fault code reader hooked up to see what its complaining about. Without that you'll be chasing ghosts.

Not being an expert on the EDC on disco 1 autos, But it could be something as simple as an engine coolant temp sensor. It probably has a different temp sensor to the gauge on your dash, so the gauge working would not be a sign that the ECU is getting the right temperature.
I believe the disco's with EDC have an injector with a sensor on as well that can become faulty causing fuel starvation etc. The kickdown is probably not working because the car is in a sort of limp mode.

Maybe your best shot is take it to a local diesel specialist, I think its a bosch system and they could easily read it for faults.
