Hi Guys,
I currently have my 300tdi defender in at a garage getting a replacement x member.
The garage have taken the previous x member off and have informed me that they're unable to fit the new x member due to the corrosion on the chassis.

I have links for the attached pictures of the chassis, please advise on what i should do?

Don't really see why they cant fix it………might not be that economical to do so with labour charges but I've replaced larger chassis sections than that on my old 109.

Where are you ? I've probably got enough 3mm sheet knocking about and some cardboard to make up templates and repair panels if you want

Defo not in great shape but it can be saved, will be a rechassis job in the future though I reckon

Im based in york, they recommend getting a richards chassis. They also said that they could do the job of fixing it but want an excessive price which i might as well buy a new chassis with. It's the labour costs of fitting a new chassis..

Thanks for your reply!

Hmmm wonder if they're on commission, either way its not too far gone as I said but it might want a new one in the future as it'll be slowly rotting out from the inside

Yorks a bit far from me at 2 hours so there'll be someone closer on here but happy to if you get desperate

If you do it yourself just take your time

If they were a proper welding place they should of known according to them it was un repaired able, and give you a call before they made the first cut.
Sounds like they are trying to fook you.
Find another welder who can do it. Then go after them for the extra expenses you will incur from there screw up

Many thanks for your offer Dr evil may take you up on that if need be :)
Thor thats what im furious about because at least my old x member was drivable as long as i didn't tow anything.
I can't exactly drive away as it isn't in a condition too, but if i need to i will get a trailer and take it away, does anyone know where a decent welder is?

tell them you want it put back to how it was when it came to them ;)

ideally they should have used a flap disk on the chassis first anyway to clean it up and mark up where to cut etc, see if theres extra damage hidden too as a rough flap disc would probably have shown that up as it has with pikeys :p so yeah their fault on that

Also I'd question what cross member you'd have been getting with all those blue boxes in background!

Tin foil and superglue special :p

I recommend pressbrake - he's worth the drive!

In the current climate the police dont even arrest shoplifters or people who drive off without paying for petrol, complainants get told its a civil matter! I think if the average bobby saw a landy minus rear x member they would put on their blinkers and head off in the opposite direction.
