I wonder how long for though bump?

I think the council will be back with a closure as soon as possible but this time a permanent one.

Ive never driven it, i hope its still open by the time january comes around.

Interesting wording


the order was not a genuine experiment and was irrational or unlawful
the experimental order was made to avoid the procedure for making a permanent Traffic Regulation Order
the condition of the route and the cost of repairing it couldn’t be used as grounds to consider an experiment
they should have separately considered the needs of two and four-wheeled vehicles


Paticuarly on

Which might give some hope... I think at the end of the day the council are strapped and shoddy as ever. if trail riders can get the cash/know how to challenge they will likely win every time if the council are not prepared.

A very nice lane coming up over the top to see the world below is awesome good news

Be aware before you go, as of the weekend just gone it was still padlocked at one end and a boulder still at the other .. Just 'cos it technically should be re-opened, doesn't mean it actually is!

Report it to the local council,

request they remove the illegal obstruction, we give you 2 weeks from letter being dropped through the letter box to clear or we will remove obstruction and lock.

we shall give you 2 weeks (fair reasonable ammount of time to remove said obstruction) if not sorted you should be ok to cut the lock and leave it next to the gate and move the boulder to a safe place while causing NO damage to the lane.

AWDC years gone by did this weekly sending in lane reports to councils showing illegal obstructions and such like. nearly always got resolved either by the council doing their job OR after a reasonable ammount of time and beingh forwarned a local group of responsible owners sorted it legally.

However the battle continues as PDNP now want to put a permanent TRO on it. Indeed, the next ‘round’ will have even further implications for mpv access to the countryside – all the national parks in particular.

For the time being please resist the temptation to all rush off to traverse Chapel Gate, but rather to show exemplary self control, discipline and good sense by NOT USING THE ROUTE before the Park’s committee meeting in January.

Damaging the route in any way at the present moment is nothing more than a gift to the opposition. And trying to avoid that is the obvious action for today. If the route is trashed immediately upon re-opening, the Park will have all the ammunition they need to press for a Permanent TRO.

At the moment they are consulting user groups about whether some sort of restraint in required, and if so, what.

Please pass this message onto as many other forums, groups and individuals as possible.

Can be a bit of a double edged sword by not using the lane, the council can then say they might as well close it as it's not being used anyway.

I have posted this is its own thread but...

Dear Drivers and Riders,

We Need to have a voluntary ban on Motor vehicles on Chaple Gate.

You will be aware that we have just won a court case which overturns the ETRO on Chapel Gate.

Chapel Gate is open ( for now) but the PDNPA are determined to close it and they will let us do it for them.

The lane is waterlogged and whilst it has been repaired it has no been repaired for use by Motor vehicles only as a bridal way.

They have a meeting on the 25th of January to decide about closing it again. If the lane is damaged by overuse it will be an open and shut case against us.

WE CANNOT AFFORD TO FALL INTO THIS TRAP

Please bear with us on this. We are putting together a plan of action that will hopefully secure this and the other lanes for “Managed” use by MPV’s for posterity. A hard task which which may not totally succeed in but could be easily scuppered by a few heavy tracks in Chapel Gate.

Hopefully it stays locked for a while then!!!

I'm in two minds about this .. It's a great lane, and if it's open it can and should be driven. Having said that, any damage and they have a case, maybe. However, if no-one drives it do they have a case that no-one drives it so why keep it open?

I dunno .. still gonna do a recce of other lanes, but will check Chapelgate first, see how it looks, conditions etc and decide 'on the fly' I think.

I see little point in keeping lanes open and not driving them. If it is opened as a 'managed' lane, it's gonna become like Gatesgarth, only open to a precious few who book early ... what's the point of that?

Frankly, in my view, it should be shut, open or made one-way like they did Stanage and Roych ... put simply, it works! Maybe managed on a seasonal basis, open half the year perhaps and closed for the rest .. no easy answer.

I understand Treadlightly and TRF, but I'm getting hacked off at cow-towing to the bobblies and others who want to stop us. Maybe we ought to be more aggressive in our actions and tell them what we want and do it instead of trying to pacify them all the time. It always seems like it's us who stop, wait, keep quiet, don't antagonise, and I get really ****ed off when you try to engage a ****er, sorry walker, and they blank you or scowl!

On balance, feck 'em .. I'll decide on the day due to conditions etc.

just a idea why not have some thing like where you can drive or ride it.
where it is open like once a month like i say just a idea
