Dear Registered User of the TRF Forum

The Peak Park website at UK national parks are ?Actively Yours? : Peak District National Park Authority <http://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/news/current-news/uk-national-parks-are-actively-yours2> gives details of a national promotion called Actively Yours:

"UK national parks are ‘Actively Yours’
That mountain: it's yours to climb. That coastal path: it's yours to wander.
That sweeping moorland, that pristine river, that tranquil forest -- they belong to you and to all of us. They are ours to explore.

'Actively yours… to enjoy' is the message of National Parks Week 2013, which takes place from Monday July 29 to Sunday August 4.
Chairman, Tony Favell added: "The weeklong celebration ends with a fun packed activity day at Castleton visitor centre on Sunday August 4. People can join in and find out what's great about the Peak District National Park."

Now that the Peak Park have shown that they DON'T welcome us (TRO soon on The Roych) and that they think the lanes are NOT ours to drive, we thought it would be nice to turn up in force and join in the fun on Sunday 4 Aug.
There will be a GLASS/TRF presence in the visitor centre car park in Castleton all day from 09.30, so come along and say hello. There are plenty of great lanes to drive/ride in the immediate area - Chapel Gate & Roych (quick before they are TRO'd), Brough Lane, Bamford Lane, to name a few.

It would helpful if there were lots of 4x4s and trail bikes and quads moving slowly up and down Winnats Pass, filling up the car park at Castleton and driving slowly (because it will be busy) through Castleton, Hope and Bamford to let everyone know that the Peak Park is ours also and that the Greenlanes are for everyone.

Suggested route for local lanes - leave Castleton Visitor Centre car park - head up Winnats Pass - Mam Tor road to Edale - up Chapel Gate - west to Rushup Edge - down The Roych - through Wash to Sparrowpit - back to top of Winnats Pass - left onto Dirtlow Rake - down Pindale - to Brough and up Brough Lane - Abney and on to Bamford via Offerton Hall - up Bamford Clough - past Stanage Edge (on tarmac) to Lady Canning's Plantation - along Houndkirk Moor and back though Hathersage to Castleton.

Help and advice for those unfamiliar with the area from GLASS and TRF will be in Castleton Visitor Centre Car Park

See you there on the 4th.

Sounds like a grand idea; a bit of a trek for me, but I'll see if the family wants to come along. If not, all the best from a novice "greenlaner" (UCR & ORPA only, so far :) )

Diff.

Won't be there unfortunately .. still be in the lakes having done Gatesgarth on the Saturday ..

Hopefully you'll still be with us David .. ;)

OK question for Paul D

Could I actually do this route if I went

Sounds like they might be hard ones

Yes.

Chapel Gate used to be awesome, but would be easily doable by you .. it can be like the Cam steps but for longer and the newly made drainage channels are bstrds, way too sharp (I think intentionally) but still easy .. Roych is similar to Cam steps in one bit, slightly steeper and higher steps, but you'll be going down that bit! Just take time and pick your line. Dirtlow is a 'farm track', Pindale is awkward, rocky, but easily doable, especially down (the way this route is), You'll like Brough, a nice lane but interesting, same for Offerton Hall, interesting. Bamford you won't like .. uphill, steep and can be awkward .. I'd suggest you go round that one! .. I hate it, I do it, but there are a couple of slabs of concrete with ruts before and after them that always seem to catch me out, I don't even like going down it .. but maybe that's just paranoia!! Lady Cannings is now easy, used to have a 'bomb hole' right at the gate that was hell, but it's been sanitised since, similarly Houndkirk is a lot flatter than it was, but one of those lanes 'you must do' .. ;)

Only really Bamford I'd suggest you personally don't do .. you can try if you feel brave mind, the 90 will easily do it if you let it!! (If you get what I mean!)

Have fun .. ;)

Thank you :D:D Right that the North Yorks trip off the calendar and Peaks on, good thing I hadn't booked :D

Just spoken to Lynsey, Warrior might be up for this trip too, shame Tim cant make it. Will speak to nrgserv and Maddogminder later too. Would be nice if there are a few of us.

Dont suppose you could send me this route in gpx if you have it. I couldn't follow it on memory map, it appear chapel gate is a bridleway  and I got completely lost further on. I assume we could follow someone is there are lot of people out.

Yeah no worries .. I'll add in a drive-around for Bamford too .. It's not a long route so I could also drop a few more in, but I'll also do a pic with the lane names on if you like .. so you can see where you are in relation to them .. ;)

Won't be done today mind ..

Unfortunately im still at work on the day but heres hoping for a big turn out.

Good luck one and all.

I was going to go, but no one else wanted to, or at least not with me :D:D

Perhaps other forums were more interested

A few lads from the 4x4ownersclub went..
Said it was a great day out but could have been better supported..

At the moment I don't have much interest as to much time taken repairing my rangey :-(

It's a shame that so many people rant and rave about lanes getting closed yet when a chance arises to back up the groups that are fighting OUR cause at a demo like this hardly any of them show up

I understand your frustrations and its not something that I would have been able to support due to the distances involved (although I would have loved to support them), but the event was not exactly well publicised or promoted, I have only just seen this thread and have not seen anything else on any of the other forums and nothing in the magazines etc.

GLASS really need to sort themselves out and get their house and PR in order, I was a member, but then moved house and couldn't even get them to acknowledge an email or letter or anything that I had moved and my membership lapsed without me being able to contact them. Their administration is a shambles and I lack any confidence in their ability to get anything sorted.

In this electronic age it should be easy for them to email members and get notices published on the various 4x4 forums and to get information published within the various magazines.

So to me GLASS are failing its members and the 4x4 community, they should be doing more to inform and promote these events to us all.

Things already booked .. and for the next few weekends .. family and stuff as well as laning .. ;) For instance, last weekend Gatesgarth Pass, this weekend away in Hawes, go home wednesday, Friday at Haxey Quays camping for the weekend, weekend after at Wintersett meeting friends for the weekend, weekend after North Yorks laning, weekend after Misterton caravanning ... some dates might be wrong, but our lass knows them .. and some of them have been booked for months!!

Stuff happens, we can't all get to places with relatively short notice, but we can all fire emails off in protest at TRO's etc .. if we know about them.

So long as people try and help it all counts ... Don't get mad between ourselves, get mad at the establishment .. ;)
