CD changer "No Disc" ??

Hi all, I was driving around the other day listening to a CD (in slot 5) and when it finished, it went to read CD6 and came up with "CD6-No disc". It preceeded to check through the discs 1,2,3,4,5,6 coming up with "CD# - No disc" before finally saying "NO DISC" and turning the radio on. Now I cant play CDs at all. Ive tried taking the magazine out,wiggling the CDs and putting them back in, but all it says is "CD check" and after a few secs says "No disc" and puts the radio back on. Its obviously not broke otherwise it wouldnt eject the magazine or talk to the radio. I assume the lasers dirty or something??
anyone know of something like this and how to sort it??

I've had this a couple of times and it has always been cured by removing and replacing the cartridge - sometimes 2 or 3 times!!
 
In my experience this is usually related to a dirty laser lens, so biglad's solution may work cause it dislodges the dust etc. I would try a head cleaner disc.
 
Are the CD's you are usig originals or copy's? The originals have a better reflective surface and are easier for the laser to read if it is a bit dirty, so I would see if it will read originals first.
 
I found removing the fuse that supplies power to it and the rest of the entertainment system sometimes solves it (but make sure you know your radio code if one is enabled!)
 
Hi Folks,

Is there an actual definatove answer to why this problem occurs? Is it just much on the laser or has anyone else found what causes this error message?

I have swapped discs about, removed and replaced the cartridge 12 times inbteween each swap, and still nothing? Well, it makes 6 noises as it checks each disc through the changer with no head unit switched on, then the same error message when I switch on th ignition.

Its only been this afternoon but its doing my head in already!

Anyone got any clues as to why and how to fix?

failed laser or dirty laser-pioneer units used to play up badly- we used to clean with Isopropyl alcohol and cotton wool bud very very gently

the glass on laser must be spotless, what happens is similar to windscreen and can cause read faults.

If the head seems to move a lot and still finds no disc= laser failure

Do Not look at laser with it powered just in case
 
I had the same problem when one of the CD's was slightly thicker than the others and wouldn't let the tray move in and out. It just so happened I had it in the CD1 slot so on putting the cartridge back in it just wouldn't start up and allow me to change disk before switching back to the radio. Only discovered the problem when I changed the CD's out of exasperation.

Therefore Discool's advice about reordering the discs may help in this scenario.
 
I have had the same thing twice now but it wasn't the laser dirty. I removed the unit and stripped it down, plugged it back in with the top removed to see what was happening. The mechanism that takes the disk in was sticking and the disk wasn't being drawn into the "spinning up area" and as such the laser didn't detect any disk. It went through the motions for all 6 disks. to remedy it a little assistance was provided to mechanism and something clicked back into place and all was ok. 18 months later it happened again with the identical symptoms, I did the same thing and again it worked. That was 3 months ago and all is still OK.
 
Had same prob with mine. turned out to be the plug at the changer end. Unpluged it a bit of wd wipe it down & it worked fine after that.

If I am not out in the mud this weekend I will remove the changer and take it to bits. I will take heaps of pictures to show others what I did, if I fix it that is!

Dave, If you do strip it down, I would plug it in and put the cd cartridge in an watch what happens. If it is like mine it sounds like it pulls the disk in to read but the mechanism was jammed. it then tries to select the next disk.............and so on. I never saw what was causing it to jam but with a little bit of help something clicked back into place and all was fine after that.

I have read elsewhere of someone seeing a plastic gear wheel that had jumped out of sink and so causing problems that way. I can hear the changer trying to grab each of the six discs but not loading any, so maybe this is also my problem.

I am snap happy so watch this space!
