I think you are wrong, trying to stay on 1.8FL topic,it is very hard to get pre cat emissions down to less than 0.6% Co no matter how much you fiddle around with sensor inputs to narrow down injector pulse width.Simple fact is the K series is a high revving 16v unit that thrives on revs.Even the later ones with pre cats didnt have knock sensors or wide band oxygen sensors.I dont believe the second cat required extra fuelling - if they are hot they will work.I think its there because the engine was physically lacking the abilty to maintain performance and meet ever stricter emission law.
Remember the actual engine remained the same all through FL1 production. If you look at a more recent petrol unit that LR use,say the AJ V8 in Disco 3,that only has a single Cat per bank, but is a generation on again with AFR sensors used both pre and post cat. There is an engine with excellent performance and emissions so low they are often difficult to measure.
You may not like emissions law,but if it were not there we wouldnt have closed loop fuel injection and still have choke knobs to hang our handbags on - I know what I would rather.

hiya all paid for a mid range cat in the end,and this did the trick,JUST,went threw lol, thanks for all your input on this thread,
