Can't select low range advice needed

When purchasing the disco 2 I was aware that I couldn't get out of high range to select low range.

My cousin assured me it could be as simple as one on top trying to move the gear and another underneath spraying lubricant.

If this miracle solution doesn't work lol, would it be a linkage issue to box or maybe a pin has come out. Any other ideas. I know it has worked before I got the car maybe not been used frequently enough and seized.

All advice would welcome 😬

Hi,
First thing, get underneath and shine a torch up and you'll see the linkage. Check there's nothing out of place (The pin did come out on my old 200tdi) and give a good squirt of release oil, then work the lever back and forth from inside.

d2 use a bowden cable between lever and box ,youd need to remove console and tunnel plate to get at cable to free it or replace it

Thanks guys I will check these things out tonight. The tunnel plate I'm assuming is under the console??

yes you need 4.5 mm drill to remove rivets and some more rivets to replace them or self tappers

Just before you start ripping out the centre console can you tell us whether it's got a manual or auto gearbox?

IF it's an auto, you do know you've got to put it into neutral on the autobox before your can shift into low?

If you do need a replacement cable, don't buy a new one as I have loads. Only cost you the postage.

Awesome 50p, well best just get one off yourself before u start butchering my car apart.

nothing wrong with manual gearboxes it s the clutch that's the problem.

I now wonder how I drove the thousands of miles I did with a full manual gearbox plus the hundreds of miles in stop start traffic and on off the clutch and accelerator pedal, with an auto its one pedal driving brilliant !
Other "modern" cars I drive are auto but have paddles so can be manual but without a clutch pedal to press.

Depends what auto's you have driven. The best by far has to be Merc, so smooth it feels like silk. The worst is a toss up between Skoda or Volvo. They are jerky pieces of **** that are just horrid to try drive. Especially when trying to navigate between 2 rows of cars with only a few inch on each side.

Best I have driven is the GM 4L30R

Driven everything from a skoda fabia to Audi RS8.

Still can't understand why anyone would want a Diesel Auto Audi TT RS. That is meant to be the balls out version. But it is almost like saying. I can only just afford the car, can't afford to run it properly, not do i know how to drive.
