I have mentioned this before, without much uptake, but will try again.

If there is a demand for an LZ meet, but no-one wants to go through the considerable hassle of organising an event, why not have a stand at the LRO show in Peterborough, in September.

The event is good, and in an existing venue. And it has excellent transport links to most areas, being near the A1(M), M1, and A14.
We went last year, and will do again, @Paul D will be there again, manning the Glass stand, and several other members go to the show anyway.
If there was a forum stand at the event, it could provide a focal point for members to meet up, and be good publicity for the forum, and maybe provide tea, coffee, biscuits and cake.
And it wouldn't be a great expense, and require toilets, a campsite, and people to lead laning trips, all of which are widely available elsewhere.

If there is demand, couldnt a meet be arranged at the same site as previous meets?

Just thought if these meets have been done before couldnt it just be arranged for the same location etc?
It was tried last year, but for various reasons some people who had shown an interest couldn't make it, and it would have meant the organisers were left out of pocket if the event had gone ahead.

I'm female and couldn't organise a **** up in a brewery. ;)

I think that was more or less the problem before. Organising an event is a lot of work.
It would be much easier to piggyback onto an event that has already been happening for years, they know the ropes, and because of their large turnover, can put on a good show at a reasonable cost.

That was a problem as well. Lots of people said they would go, but didn't actually buy tickets.
There is a huge amount of competition, there are many events, including a number of landrover related ones, every weekend throughout the year.
So if the event doesn't generate enough revenue from advance sales, it ends up being cancelled.

I appreciate that. Just think that LZ members would be more inclined to attend a 'small members only' event rather than a big event where they meet at a given point.

I was under the impression that this was a 'general meet' for LZ members rather than an 'event'?

tbh, I saw it the other way.

Peeps put in the effort and tried to arrange a good weekend, but ticket sales were not good enough, a lot of those who said they would buy tickets failed to when it was time to lay out the cash. Therefore the planned expensive items could not be covered for and it was cancelled.

It has happened since in a lot simpler way, tents, a local pub , a bonfire, stereo from a car, beers from a ooler and a days laning. Anyone can organise that in their locality if they are interested.

Cheers

That's kinda what I was thinking... no big expensive 'events'... just a camp site.. drinks...barbecue etc.

Exactly. The event didn't really have a USP. So why not have a low cost social meet at the LRO show?

Is not difficult to arrange, if you live in an area with greenlanes, then find someone onhere who lives locally and knows their stuff . arrange a few lanes and a place to camp up, drink beer, have a fire pit, and as they say "they will come".

Cheers

I disagree, I think it did, but if peeps are not going to buy advance tickets to fund it then it is not going to happen. The USp fpr me was other LZ members in a small friendly area, drnking having a bbq, then a few lanes the next day or so. with a lot of laughs.

Cheers

Exactly. I totally agree... why does it have to have a USP... maybe just meet for a laugh and few drinks!

What was the USP? As you said in your earlier post, you can go laning and have a few beers anytime, and most of us have done it many times.
