i am looking for something thats gonna be good for tree work - that add was just one i looked at when checking out some disco's i would have no intention of buying it -but when i read the add it said it had never been off road, which in my mind is bloody weird seeing as they supposedly spent 15k making it the biz and then not using for for what you spent 15k making it be able to o - i reckon its nicked or something.....
Still looking at defender 90's - the freelander i'm being offered (2002) is my sisters, her fella is a top mechanic and i know its been looked after - they offered it to me coz they know i'm looking for something with a bit of guts, though to be honest - i spent a year using a VW caddy out here and it did ok, yes it got stuck in the snow a lot, and its was crap at pulling trees over..... i think its more of a case of i have the cash, fuel is only getting more expensive so this could be the only opportunity i get to own a landy...

the gaylander will be great till...

If you want a no frills work vehicle, get a defender, if you want some comfort, then a disco, if you want comfort & a price tag with a LR badge, get a Range Rover, if you want a city car with a LR badge, get a freelander.

Simples :)

Thanks for the info and advice, gonna keep looking, dont think i'm gonna go for the freelander i've been offered, - i ask my sisters boyfriend if he was in my position would he buy it....no answer....
seen some mint defenders....not so many discos in my price range... this has bee nt helatest to catch my eye Land Rovers UK | Defenders for sale Bath Bristol Somerset England it more than i originaly set out to spend but it appears to be a good example - though at 6ft 3, the trip from england to sweden is gonna require lots of leg stretching stops...

I'm sure there's plenty of nice folk on here who'll have a door open for a cuppa n chat when you do come over :D

To be honest, if you're even considering a Freelander you most definitely should not be considering a Defender to do the same job. Also works the other way around. They are at opposite ends of the LR spectrum

Thats way too much to pay for a N/A...

For that money you can get a cracking 200/300tdi and believe me you will not regret it...it may have to be right hand drive but you'll get used to that.

I drive a RHD here in denmark and its no problem at all...with the light traffic we have, and you in sweden, overtaking isnt a great problem..

You're welcome to stop here if you do the Harwich-Esbjerg route. PM me.

Right, 1, i'm an iditot, assume i know nothing, its much easier that way, no one is dissapointed , just plesantly suprised and the ability to rub my belly whilst pstting my head at the same time.....

2, I'm gonna buy a truck, or some disciption, some bastard put the idea of a landy in my head, i havent slept for two nights thinking about it.

I live in sweden, work with trees, mainly in urban areas but on occasion in the middle of the ass hole of nowhere. 3, Will need to carry tools and kit, tow reasonable loads upto (couple of tonne) mybe drag over the odd tree, 4, be abused, camping trips, thrashing through hills etc.

I have been looking at ex MOD Defender 90 late 1980's 2,5D good colour and dents will only add to the value of the vehicle. My sister and her fella have just offered me there 5, Freelander td4 3 door. Much shal we say classier looking, would feel bad if i rammed it in a ditch, but much better road charateristcs...coz i will be doing regular long hauls in it across scandinavia - i have driven defenders before the first 10 minutes is hell and all you do is complain, after 30 minutes your body goes numb and you complain but it doesnt matter coz after oly 20minutes you've gone deff - (i am right in this, and its not just me is it? ). Both looking at 3.5k....

think the freelander is an 03 but i'm gettg more specs soon.......

what would you do???

1, You admit yer an Idiot.
2, You say you want a truck.
3, You're considering relying on a freelander in the middle on nowhere to tow 2 tonne ( well i suppose that kinda proves point 1)
4, Is it you or the vehicle that will be abused
5, See point 3.
6, Do you really want to know what peeps on here would do?

You is totally stark staring mad

You'll fit right in ere :D :D :welcome2:
