Hi all,

Just changed the head on my Disco and had a quick question. When I was replacing the long bolt which screws into the side of the head and tensions the chain, I noticed two shiny grooves on the end. The end that presses against the tensioner guide. I want to know if this is normal, or whether its worn and I need a new tensioner bolt.

I haven't got pics unfortunately, as its only after refitting it I've got doubts. the grooves are shiny silver and stand out as the rest of the bolt is a brown colour.

I've looked for pics on the net, but can't find any from the right angle.

Cheers in advance.

Thats pretty standard. Unless they are deep grooves in which case you might want to fit a new tensioner. You'll recall it has a hollow middle with a small oil jet that lubes the chain as it runs past and it also acts like a hydraulic cam follower in that it pumps up under oil pressure to tension the chain.
