Hi guys,

My friends cam belt broke on his 90 2.5 19j engine. We went out for the day to whaddon when his clutch had gone so while he was being towed back to his trailer at about 20 mph his cam belt went . I've taken the rocker cover off and the rocker arm off and found 5 bent push rods.
Someones told me that the pushrods take the damage an that I shouldn't have to take the head of as valves should be ok? How true is this?.

Graham.

When you fit the new belt and push rods , turn the motor over TWICE by HAND first back to the timing marks .........
If it locks up then your cam timing is out ( re set your cam a full turn and do the same again ) then its a case of your IP timing could be a turn out .

Dunno, I got the engine off G-man :) Blew the old one up with a hole in the bore

However, when it was last in a landy took a while to start... It now starts instantly :)

then its a case of your IP timing could be a turn out .

IP cannot be a turn out, it fires diesel every 90° down the correct injection pipe, so just get the mark right on this one and you are set.

Also, replace ALL the pushrods, they may all LOOK straight but might not be and they cost about £2. When this happened to me it was at 70mph, 90 was back on the road 22hrs later at a cost of about £30 for belt, and rods.
