Hi Everyone,
Last night on my way to work my Freelander 2 cut out and refused to start !
Green Flag took a quick look in the dark and cold and says he could see the cam belt flapping around under the engine cover !.
Vehicle was taken to a local Garage and they will look at it on Monday.
My question is as the engine turns over freely could it possibly be a case of new Cam belt fitted and Bingo it will start again :)
or the dreaded 'Sorry sir you have bent valves !':(
Kind Regards
Mike

A quick visit today to the Garage and we have discovered the fault.
1. the wide Plastic Collar around the tensioner bearing had broken up and departed so the belt went slack and leapt off the Pulley !
2. Valves bounced on piston and camshaft fractured

Questions.
Was the idler pulley replaced when the belt was changed? I'm guessing not.
So it's really down to whoever did the belt.

Valves bounced on piston and camshaft fractured

Never heard of a cam fracturing in a belt failure scenario. They are much stronger than the valves, but the rockers are very soft so will bend before the cams break.
