I have a nut leftover

Went to look at a Range Rover just now, at a place just outside of Bearly, nr Warwick.
It was sitting low, so when the sales guy started her up I was stood watching for the suspension to lift fairly quickly, nothing happened.

Salesman told me that it had been sat on the forecourt for a while, so it'll take longer to pump air back into the system, and that if he drives around the block, it would have lifted back up by the time he gets back.

Is this right?

I was under the impression that it should lift fairly quickly, then drop again when you turn off the engine.
He told me this isn't the case, and that after being driven for a few weeks, I'll not notice the suspension drop at all when parked.

He was also pushing me towards a Disco Td5 saying they were better for towing, 4.6 / 4.0 range rovers would labour towing a heavy caravan, blow gaskets, run hot when towing and are fitted with sports gearboxes that don't have a low range gearbox.

Looking for second opinions here...never owned a landy so will be easily mislead. How much of this is correct.

Cheers for any help.

There is no opinion the man is talking complete bollox and expect the td5 is more expensive than the range. The suspension should lift straight away providing you have the standard ride hight selected( button in middle of dash). The suspension will not drop when the engine is turned off it only drops when you select the exit button on the dash ( it will only drop if there is a problem with the eas when the engine is turned off). As for overheating when towing what a load of crap they are great for towing and they have a low, high and sport all mixed into one gear box. If you want to tow all the time go for the td5 but if you only do it every so often go for the balls out luxury of the range. Also dont buy a car off this man he does not know what he is talking about, take you time and buy the right car from the right person.

AAAAARH!!!!! are you telling me a salesman was telling me porkies.

Exactly as I suspected.

Like I said though I've never owned one, so I'm a bit wet behind the ears with these.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Good advice from spinners.....walk away.....and your self too, for not going for the salesman spiel, salesmen what do they know? they just want your £££ and the car off the forecourt, he will sell you anything and the more you pay the better from him, most go about thinking there mechanical wizards well there not there sales people, just remember that, and don't trust anyone but your own instinct

So...Will a 4.0 / 4.6 Lpg Rangie be as good as a Td5 Disco for our intended uses.

I'll be using it for a daily 20 mile round trip on the motorway, (luckily my shift times miss the rush hour, so it's always a nice easy cruise).

We'll only be towing a caravan, (15-1600 Kgs), maybe six or seven times a year, will be both long and short distance.

Thanks for your advice so far, much appreciated and worth it's weight in gold.

If you want car like performance go for a lpg 4.6, (sorry diesel owners) if you just cruise and take it easy go for a dse range. As for the differance between a disco and a range rover (sorry disco owners)
Disco = run of the mill good allrounder boring
Range Rover = top of the range bells and whistles included

In my opinion you can not compare the range rover with the disco ive had both and i will go for the range every time.
As for towing the range is sturdy with loads of tourq and the self leveling suspension keeps it nice and level with limeted bounce.

Also i thought i would mention (depends if you are married/partner) my wife loves the range and drives it just as well as any bloke, and is very easy to park. Just thought id give you a bit of levrage if you and the missus are looking together.

Well put it this way...your driving and towing are habits, i think allow you to have either Landys, so what would you prefer on you driveway? i know i would rather have the RR for shear comfort and better ride

hi there, i do the same type of driving as yourself and i got a 2.5 dse manual. does the pulling well with the caravan. plus i get bout 29mpg when towing. i am toying with i idea of a chip or somthing though just for normal driving.

Leaning towards a Disco, went to look at a couple earlier.
I think it might be the extra two seats in the back that make the difference.
It means we can seperate the rowdy kids on long journeys.

Going to test drive tomorrow......still like the range rovers though...and could still be tempted.

I agree with spinners not trying to pursuade you but a discovery is good and with the extra seats they do come in handy I have a discovery but you can fit the bench in the back of the Range Rover giving you the same 7 seats. For power you would be better going for 4.0/4.6 lpg and with all the luxuries put in the range rover. As much as I love my disco I am getting a Range Rover 4.6 lpg because the power is alot better in my opinion.
