That might be the case but don't assume an early FL2 or D3 is a bad thing - may be a high mileage but they both have fine doozal engines. And if you have 7k to spend, why not stretch to the newer model i.e. spend a bit more for a vehicle that will always be worth more - Would you really spend this amount on the old model?:)

Hmm - Although I can see your point - only time will tell.

History doesn't always bear out your theory of newer models being better, or worth more, than their predecessor.

Would you rather have a 1975 Jaguar XJ-S or an E-Type? Now that really is a no-brainer.

I consider the TD4 Facelift to be a classic in the making.

I'm keeping mine for another 30 years just to see. LOL :p

If it were me I'd spend about 4k - 4.5k on the latest one I can get with the lowest mileage, and save the rest for getting it right.

And for me it would probably be a V6, partly because I love my current one and partly because my brain can only learn about one car at a time!

Oh well - just trying to bring balance in here - seems to me a lot of blind loyalty. If I had. say 8 or 9k (I don't btw) to spend on a D2, I would look at some early D3's, maybe that's just me. My other main hobby is just as precious in discussion. Moderators should faction off FL1 forum!! Did you look at the Dacia or is this just heresy?:):)

Oh yea - DD's black modular wheels are back in stock - think i posted this earlier!! Watchin silent witness now cos thingy fox is very nice - don't tell wify!!

Loyalty - probably more like enthusiasm for the original Freelander concept.

Blind loyalty - I hope not - and certainly not to the marque.

I really and truly wish I had the Series 1 my uncle had back in 1953 - but he sold it and bought an Austin Gypsy! But of course I couldn't use it as everyday transport any more than I would an E-Type.

I really don't know what will be everyday drive in the future when the TD4 gets too old for trans-continental trips.

Yes - I have looked at the Dacia Duster - and the Škoda Yeti!!!!!! Even been to the VW / Škoda Factory just north of Bratislava.

I don't see myself buying another LR product as I certainly don't think I fit the customer profile that Pallonji Shapoorji Mistry, the Irish chairman of Tata, and his fellow executives in Mumbai appear to be targeting these days.

Fair comments, yes enthusiasm and nothing wrong with that. Comparison with e type is stretching it a bit:) Not sure about Freelander as a classic and certainly not Disco. Defender and RR yes, definitely. Dacia is Renault, I believe, and uses Nissan's selectable 4x4. Now that seems to be a very neat set up.

Skoda Yeti is the one I would consider as a replacement for my Freelander.I have VW written through me like a stick of rock, but I think Skoda build quality is better.
My other half runs a Fabia and apart from Electric P/S pump and an ABS module(both parts VW parts bin )its a nice little motor.
Dealers are sort of Ok to.

I love my Freelander and its the best compromise for general use I have had.
Previous owned Suzuki(fun but uncomfortable)
Honda CRV(very comfortable but to light and thirsty)
Toyota Rav 4 (Like all the Toyotas I have driven, built with the same passion as a fridge)
Had a tratter as well(fun but agricultural)

Parked next to a Freelander 2 the other day and had time to compare them both.
Decided I would rather spend my money on repairs for mine than have something that does the same job for a lot more money and keeps depreciating.
Plus I bet I would be scared of damaging it.
Bit to flash as well for me but a nice car.
Maybe in 5 years time at the right money.

Aha - you're back - Silent Witness must be finished.

Yes - Dacia are Renault based. Used to be old Renault models assembled in a crumbling old factory warehouse in Pitesti, Romania.

I've been around there too - but the Duster model for UK is made in the new high-tech Renault-Nissan factory in Chennai, in Hindustan (India).

Small world isn't it.

That's an interesting mix you have there. Ref SV's last post - they are all from a parts bin these days. I would buy an FL2 in a flash - if I had the cash, a very nice baby RR. You reminded me that parked outside Boots the other day, a steel grey RR sport parked next to me and a very smart woman jumped out and rushed into shops. Very nice (the car). Then a steel grey FL2 parked the other side of me (also very nice) - A quite elderly couple took forever to climb out of it. I must admit, did feel very small and very blue in my FL1. Not very logical!! I like all Land Rovers me and will stay with the marque. Love your comment on toyota:)

Yes - never understand what's going on - don't care!!

I'm a big LR fan but I do think they need to try and stay in touch with us ground troups - yeah right, not hopeful! This is why the Defender replacement is such a hot topic (in circles). I believe they will come out with an FL1 size model with a very clever transmission - maybe using a system robbed from Nissan and that may be your next motor!!:)

I do like the Freelander and try to find reasons to drive it.
Its surprised me this bad weather with its ability in the snow.
I have even tried to catch it out by stopping on icy hills, just to see if I could get it stuck.
No chance,a bit of traction control and away we went. Its not all flat in Lincolnshire.

If I won the lottery (which I don`t do) I would still probably buy a Range Rover but not the sport.
Like VWs, I feel comfortable in Landies.

Hmm. Slate grey RR Sport TDV. Yes, I think so!:D

Well if he hadn't already decided - he should be sure know - after reading all our enthusiastic comments - they have almost all been positive saying how much we like our Freelanders.

very true , what a fantastic motor they are , its just a shame they are a pain when they go wrong:)
