hi guys my mate is looking at buying a 1.8 freelander soft top thingy on a t plate showing 85000 miles its fitted with a lpg system with installation certificate. are there any issues we need to be aware of when we look at the car that we need to check and what kind of work can we expect in future if he buy's it. read a couple of reviews that seem to slate reliability on these vehicles but in contrast also read a few which highly regard them. Are there any known problems with these engines such as head gasket etc. The cars up at £4000 but he's hoping to get them down to about 3 as he's related to salesman. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

dont
repeat DONT!
do a search on "buying" on this forum.
if you want a Hippoo - go for the TD4 - yu shd be able to get an 01 plate for about 4k if you look hard.

or buy contraboys ;)

gotta agree on this one, expect a few probs with the ed gasket on the earlier 1.8's however some of them are really good with no problems, its a bit of a lottery really, but.... you can say that with any landie, get a stonking warrenty and hammer it until the warrenty runs out if it breaks get the buggers to pay !:D when it runs out take it steady! it should be fine?

cheers guys told him your thoughts but his missus has decided she wanted it anyway so they've taken best warranty they could get ( i think its 2 yr) they take delivery saturday... i've also told him my spanners are going nowhere near it.. lol

Enjoy it mate!

Yep sure there have been probs associated with k-series, so long as you check your oil and coolant on a weekly basis you cant go far wrong. Plus plenty of mods to help prevent HGF

Besides plenty of help at hand from the troopers on here

Well put LR1796,

Plus if anything does fail like the HG - there is a new uprated one which so far appears to solve the problem.

I'm pleased with mine 1998 5 door 104K - good loadspace (recently moved my whole house in 20 1 mile trips), Good visibility, parts cheap to buy if you fit yourself... I could go on.

Regards,

Steve

Hows the house going G13

When the house warming party for all hippo drivers LOL
20 1 mile trips thats some serious load lugging

It may have been more trips!!

I completed on Friday 26th at 3pm, started moving boxes at 4.30 and worked until 12.30am. By then I had moved the telly, dining chairs, boxes, hifi, suitcases of clothes etc.

I then borrowed a van (at no cost) to move the bed, dining table and other large items.

House is getting straight - four rooms are completely done, other are piled high with boxes. I need to sort some wardrobes out - luckily I have half term next week and already its booked for phone line, then sky etc.

Its a long way for you to come to a housewarming!!

Regards,

Steve
