Hi all,

Recently won a bid on ebay for a 1996 300tdi. Seemed cheap, couldn't work out why. I've paid a £100 deposit and suddenly thought I haven't done an HPI!

So I did a text check, came back as not stolen, not scrapped, no colour changes but cat c in 2002 with no record of a VIC?

The disco has 12Months Tax/MOT and the seller has the logbook. He says he's only had the car a couple of months, so surely if there was no VIC carried out the DVLA wouldn't have issued a V5?

Anyone got any thoughts? I've had a cat d before didn't bother me was a great car and really cheap (still got it in garage as I think it's too good to sell!) but what about a cat c with no VIC? If its all straight and chassis numbers match up should I just go ahead with it? Planning to keep it long term as a run around/weekend toy to keep the miles down on my CH company car which has 15k pa mileage allowance.

Thanks for any advice!

cat c must have a VIC certificate to legally put it back on the road,IIRC.

So if it has tax, mot and v5 it must've had a VIC between 2002 and now, right? Maybe just hasn't been updated on the mytextcheck database?

Part of me thinks maybe the guy bought it, got the dreaded VIC letter before they would issue a v5 and now he's had it done and got v5 he just wants shot of it?

i would check it out with the DVLA on line.just to be safe.all a cat c is it just has to checked over by the mot station to certified safe to use and that the repairs have been done to the correct standard.
