Hello,

I've just driven from Leeds to Ipswich and I've noticed a couple of annoying problems. First of all there's a very annoying kind of constant judder coming from the back end. It is apparent whilst the wheels are rotating. It's almost as if the brakes have high spots, so the whole vehicle kind of slows down and then speeds up a whether it be in gear or in neutral. It's like a constant juddering / jolting. Could this be the uj's on the rear prop shaft or is it more than likely to be the aframe bushes or ball joint? I can also feel a really rough rumble in the floor panels which is being created by something at the back.

Any thoughts? I'm guessing uj's, bushes or ball joint

One of my trailing arm bushes went a while ago, dident seem like what youve described. It would lurch to the left under power and right under braking. How about hand brake? Could that be rubbing, it could certainly cause a juddering as it jumps with the slack in the drive. When UJs have gone on mine, ive knowtised it on the floor pan the most, the whole propshafts off centre so its quite a wobble. Could it not also be as simple as wheel wobble from an unballanced wheel? Should be able to eliminate alot of stuff once you get under there. Ball joints are cheap, only hard bit is pressing in the new one. Could be worth changing anyway, but when i changed mine (which had recived considerable abuse), it made no difference what so ever.

Alright thanks for the replies :) I suppose the best way forward then is to have a good look and check everything out properly. I'll swap the uj's anyway because they're cheap enough and I'll wind the hand brake off a notch. The wheels were balanced not long ago so they can't be too far out. I'm suspecting the ball joint also needs some work and as a matter of maintenance, I'll replace the trailing arm bushes. One of then is starting to perish and crack around the edges.

It does sound like the handbrake is sticking on a tad , or worse a wheel bearing about to collapse or picking up on the stub axle .

Cheers Sypher. The rear wheel bearings were only replaced last MOT, and there's no play in them so they should be alright. I'll whip the hand brake drum off and give the inside a really good clean as well as adjusting it back a little too. I've got another problem with the wiring now too. How odd!
