Well, that was a hell of a job!

I decided that I'd replace the bushes at the same time too, so had to take the whole A frame off.

Every single bolt either had to be cut off with the reciprocating saw or be drilled and the attacked with the air hammer.

Then I could not break the taper on the ball joint, no matter what I tried, so had to blast it free with an SDS drill in the end.

Then came the fun job of getting the old bushes out. I was able to easily cut through the first two metal rings in the bushes, but the then the rubber would grip onto the blade so tightly that it was nearly impossible to move the saw. I got there is the end, once again with some help from the SDS drill. Needless to say, I went with poly bushes to replace.

All in all, I reckon it took around 10 hours to do, with about 8-9 hours of that taken up with disassembly. Not the best use of my time, but I' pleased to have done it and wouldn't hesitate to do it again if the need arises.

I find every straightforward job with an LR takes an age and nuts don’t respond to spanners :D

SDS drill is a good idea.

This is how I have always done my bushes, each one of my A-frame ones was less than a 10-min job (and they had been in for 18-years to my certain knowledge!).

Cut through the rubber with a holesaw.
Remove centre sleeve (or in case of A-frame bush - sleeves).
Cut through outer sleeve with hacksaw.
Tap out sleeve.

Having a small fire going helps speed up bush removal. Once the rubbers burnt away it’s easy to hacksaw the last steel ring

this one, burn the rubber out with a blow torck or throw it in the fire, then the outer ring can be cut far more easily. same way I do the radius arms!
