Hi Folks,

I am LOVING landy ownership! However I had her offroad last night and heard a loud bang whilst the axles were crossed up.

I found the spring has unseated and have now found that the rear shocker has failed in tensile and is now in 2 pieces......:(

I will now have to replace the shocker but it has gotten me thinking....How can i stop this again? I appreciate that dislocation cones are a good idea but how can I stop the shocker from taking the load after the spring has run out of travel??

Any suggestions??

I take it its a rear spring and the top has popped out yes?

If so we used to put 3 or 4 jubilee clips around the top coil and around the chassis spring seat. This was great and was raced for years with no major problems.

As Jai says use jubilee clips to hold the spring in place. This will stop it dislocating. You could use axle chack straps to do the same if you so wish.

Hi there, Check out the bump stops on the axle. Are they there? If your suspension is lifted and you have standard height bump stops then this is the same as having none. I snapped off the top of a couple of shockers before I realised this.

I don't think they snap being pulled it when they are pushed together they snap. I thought originally they snapped when the springs left their seats but its at the other end of the travel that it happens.

When you change somthing like shocks its a case of working everything out. If you want more travel you need to move mounts aswell as buy different shocks and then new bump stops possibly to limit the rear end from hitting your rear tub. Ipersonally like the LR setup as is
