Look at this photo of this new Britpart rear brake caliper for a Disco II, in particular the surface next to the threaded hole. I know that the copper crush washers are designed to fill in any slight imperfections once torqued-up, but surely these machining marks are too severe to risk me using this caliper?

Cheers!

That really does look like a piece of rubbish to be honest. I wouldn't fit that to such a life-saving element system as the brakes.

Send it back and get a refund.

Took it to a trusted local garage, they also advised not to fit it. Trouble is that most of the calipers I can find are Britpart, originals are something like £200 each!

Look at JGS 4x4 web site they have d2 calipers , ask who they came from , they cost about £40 each. If you also look on the d2boys club web site you find a discount code for 10% off. Hope this helps.

Cheers, have emailed them as I cant find a phone number, plus I'm a member of the D2boys forum. Island 4x4 said they will arrange collection, which is great as it'd cost a fortune to send via Royal Mail . TRW/Lucas seem to be about the best available at £65 from Craddocks without paying the full £161 for a "genuine" from Land Rover.

Got hold of a TRW brake caliper today (McDonald landrover Oswestry - the cheapest by far), what a world of difference, no tooling marks anywhere, nice milled surfaces. I'll be avoiding Britpart from now on.
