Brake overhaul, Britpart, Bearmach or TRW

Freelander 1 2.0di needs a brake overhaul so ordering drums, shoes, cylinders, discs, pads and various springs, clips, adjusters and extras.

Are Britpart still as bad as has always been said? I know the price is very cheap which must say something and I know their bad reputation but a parts guy has told me Britpart brakes are now fine and he'd fit them over TRW.

Am I correct that TRW are original fitment?

Any advice appreciated - as I'm paying a mechanic mate to do this I don't want a double labour cost for poor parts either.

I use APEC stuff, not cheap but good quality and reliable.
As for Brit part........barge pole springs to mind!

My britpart rear shoes squeal like a pig. Maybe with some more copper slip they might be quiet, I havnt had a chance to strip em back out again to try.

I bought decent shoes on line and ended up with 2001 on so needed shoes in a hurry, I have a britpart supplier 5 miles from me with the right ones in stock. So........

But I wouldn't buy britpart shoes again as they looked like reconstituted cornflake packets.

i have never had an issue with britpart eerr...parts

dont see what all the fuss is about tbh. I feel its a bit of people moaning on the interweb because you never get people praising stuff.

Just my tuppenth anyway

Replace both front and rear discs and pads in 2011 on my Discovery with Britpart stuff and still going strong 3 years later.
Can't fault their brake parts.

LR would likely have had a range of suppliers of the same parts, just in case of supply issues. I know that the last set of LR pads I bought were in fact Lucas pads in a LR branded box.
But TRW could equally supplied brake parts too.
Use the best you can afford with brakes

I havnt had any other issues with britpart stuff I have used... It was just a comment on the shoes I bought, if they didn't squeal I would be happy with them. And as I say I just chucked them on in a hurry because the old ones had delaminates and I needed to use the freelander for a 300 mile trip the next day.....

I've gone with branded parts:

Delphi discs & pads, TRW drums and Ferodo shoes.

Sure, I could have saved a tonne of cash with Britpart but I couldn't risk any problems. Just hope all these parts are hassle free now.

hi

personally i bought all genuine land rover stuff, new ventilated discs, pads and rear shoes,

just felt i didnt want to take any risk with the brakes

but know theres some good pattern parts but preferred to use genuine parts

last three pad orders from bearmach have all been in LR packaging but have all been different TRW Mintex Ferodo. Shoes have been Mintex Ferodo

Britpart have such a poor reputation. John Craddock has now stopped using them and has changed supplier, only selling what remaining Britpart stock he has left. I bought a Britpart clutch slave cylinder for my Series 3 Lightweight. Got me to the MOT station and back before packing up just as I got home.............
