boot keeps popping open

i am having problems with my boot on my free lander 2.2 2008 it keeps popping open any one had the same problem and is it easily remedied

Water did find its way through the high brake light and end up in the switch in the tailgate, this then corrodes and throws up the fault you describe, if switch is clean and dry then the lock mechanism is at fault in bottom of tailgate
