bods just been out in the landy got out put the steering lock on , locked the dorrs and half way to the house it started then stalled twice by it self.

any pointers b4 he starts crying and smacking it with a hammer

should add its beens tood 3 days while hes been away working and the battery light has been on for a few month but bod bin bod didnt do out as it still ran sweet

sounds like a short in the starter motor wiring or alternator.

alternator wiring harness melted behind the engine block could catch fire if left. Disconnect battery and trace wires back I bet the plastic clips have broken and its worn away the insulation and shorting out.

mine caught fire if it wasn't for a handyily placed 9/16th spanner and a 2Kg powder extinguisher my 90 would be history! Now have a marine cut out switch for peace of mind

reet mi thinks am gerrin somewhere .

me n mi bud whos a sparky recon its the coil ? bit behind the key barrel. hard 2 describe unless youve seen it / know what am on about lol.

behind ignition key part is a cylinder which at the end of it behind the dash has another smaller cylinder shape connected inot it which has the termianls on the end . this was loose but only slightly ?

make sense ?

It is possible that the ignition switch is shorting internally. That can allow the engine to crank. It doesn't explain the battery light staying on though. It's more likely to be the alternator or it's wiring at fault.
