not really unless liners loose ,and often head gasket has gone due to cracked block so not often easy to tell then ,most crack blocks ive seen you couldnt tell till block was pressurised so that water leaked out between liner and block

Is it hard as in rock hard or hard as in firm? They do get quite firm when the engine is warm. Any water in oil/oil in water?
