Hey all,

As per my previous thread, I am considering replacing the blend motors on my '99 DSE, and I am trying to read up on everything I need to do to carry this out.

I read in aprevious thread that once the new motors are fitted, a recalibration is necessary using Autologic/Rovacom/Faultmate, et al, afterwards, whilst other posts don't mention this.

Is it required to recalibrate? and what exactlly does the recalibration recalibrate??

The heater ECU does a self test of servo motors on 1st startup then 10th 20th 50th 100th and 500th. It then repeats the self tune on every 500th startup. This test should be be invoked by Testbook when a blend motor is replaced. According to Land rover.

So the recal. ensures the Blend Servos run from stop to stop and measures the angular measurement to achieve full range is correct and within limits...!!

More to this changing the Blend motors than meets the eye me thinks...!!

Also if on the Heater Unit, one Blend Motor is on one side and two on t'other, if they are to be replace without removing the entire dashboard, how does one get the wiring loom and other Blend Motor to the other side of the Heater Unit....is there enough space to slide it over to the otherside under all the 'still in place' dashboard components??

Think you had better go to www.rangerovers.net there is a full breakdown of how it's done with shortcuts on there.

Many thanks Wammers, I have read and re-read then went back and read it again as it is a great example of how how to do it...I have also read this (although it is a mostly dash-out job and is for O rings) but gives a good grounding on the location of components.

O Rings Part 1

Any further reading will be greatly received if anyone knows of different write-ups.

I am a nut for reading everything and anything before I embark on such events...one to ensure I can do it and two because I can't afford for things to go wrong...!!!

Just had a quick look at that it would appear that whilst you can run the diagnostics and invoke the test, you do not need to and motors will set themselves after a few cycles.

You sir are, as always, a true font for knowledge.

It will be a while before I muster up the courage to contend with such a task, so there is more opportunity to read up and look at photos etc...

Any further info is greatly received and hugely appreciated.

I changed mine because the distribution servo had packed up, it was stuck on the windscreen. I replaced all 3 and on start up I had full control straight away. Full distribution of direction and full heat control. As far as I was concerned that meant they were calibrated:)

Think you will find both O rings and blend motors can be change (with some difficulty depending on quality of your tools) without removing dash, although a little controlled butchery maybe required.
