Hi, i'm currently having problems bleeding my disco.

I replaced the P Gasket, bled the system and then took it for a run. the top rad hose has a slight split in it so i taped it up and ordered a new one. I then went for a small drive to test everything was ok, tempreture guage said everything was great, then it went all clakety, and cut out on me. After sitting there waiting for it to cool down, i topped it up with water and limped it home. Struggling to start it atm aswell.

The new hose came to day so i though i'd give it a fresh start and bleed it completely. however im not being very successful. its almost like the diso is rejecting the water. i empty the system and fill it back up with all caps off. put rad cap on, and fill from thermostat housing. once levels are the same in header tank and termostat housing i start it up. It chucks all water out both holes and i have to start process again. Ive tried filling it up while its running and still no joy. Ive gone about this every way i possoble can but still not having any joy, its just chucking the water back out.

this is my only car so i need to get this sorted asap

Any ideas anyone?

You have got the heater valve set to 'Hot' haven't you ?

Mean to say the heater matrix is 'open'...

Is the main radiator getting hot all over and is the top hose hot also?

I have got the heater set to hot but it wont make any difference as i'v bypassed the matrix with a u bend in the engine bay because the heating just leeks all over the passenger foot well.

the whole thing is getting hot all over. When running with the thermostat housing cap off it steams out after its dispursed all the water. All pipes are hot.

filling procedure-
remove expansion tank cap.
remove rad plug.
remove stat plug.

on level ground, fill expansion tank till bubble free air comes out of rad plug hole.
replace rad plug and expansion tank cap.
fill thru stat plug hole till full.
(easier to put a funnel in and fill funnel. squeeze rad pipes till air bubbles stop appearing in funnel water)
replace stat plug.

when run and warm there should be little of no hiss when expansion tank cap is removed, and no bubbling of water out the top. the rad pipes should remain squishy (with cap on) and not hard. pipe hardness is a sign of over pressure in the coolant system.

reading your other thread, sounds like you've boiled it and cooked the head.
check for coolant system pressure by putting a condom or rubber glove on expansion tank after removing the cap. when running, it shouldnt expand, if it looks like a limp dick you may have gasses in the system indicating a cracked head or blown head gasket.

heater matrix is always in circuit dips, hot/cold ventilation is controlled by flaps.
dont run without a stat, as its a 3 port valve affair, bringing the rad into circuit as temperature is acheived. removing stat just allows water to circulate easiest route, usually rad bypass. (just in case you'd considered removing it!)

Cheers for that nrgserv,

Having read your 'other' thread...

Sounds like you cooked it by running it even though you'd found a split in the top hose ... a lot of pressure there ...
Hi Guys

Im new here so sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.

Back in February i decided to finally get myself a Landrover. I had always wanted one and after 4 years of normal cars (From a mk2 fiesta to a 2007 3.0 CDTI V6 Vectra) and major bad luck i decided it was time for a well deserved pick me up.

I had found a Discovery 300tdi in a local dealer and i bagged it for £750!!, of course i late found out why it was such a good price. Now I'm not a complete novice on Landrovers, my granddad has had two Disco 300TDI's and a TD5 (that lasted two weeks, he hated it). plus i have a friend who own 7 land rovers including series 3's, a 2A, 101 and Defender 110. and another friend who had a series 3 FFR (recently bought a p38). and I've had the pleasure of helping with all sorts of jobs in them all.

However..........my very own disco is a disaster. As soon as i bought it, i found the radiator had NO fins and the heater matrix was dead, and then had to get the head gasket done. After a new rad and head gasket work, i have been everywhere in it, pulled many cars out of the snow and rescued my friends p38 from a field and pulled another friend in is freelander through countless green lanes.

However, all this time ive been loosing water and no idea where from. Last week i pulled into work and found all the water poring out the bottom of the engine. I lifted the bonnet and it took all of 1 minuet to see my p gasket was in much need of replacing, as it looked like niagra falls under there.

Yesterday i undertook this job, didn't take as long as i though either. However, the temperature gauge is shooting up and down like a yoyo (and im talking about right up to the H and above, then down the half way). and the top radiator pipe (from Rad to Thermostat) is pushing small amounts of water out (At pressure). I noticed a crack in the end of this pipe and have ordered a new one, but i doubt this is cause of the tempreture issue.

Anyone got any ideas?

Apolligies for the novel, but trust me, this is only the start of a very long list of problems

it would appear that the fault is myself. after following all these directions carefully i have found that it is still very pressurised and throwing water out. and then i say some steam coming out the rear of the engine. I fear that the Head has gone...........again. oh joys
