black smoke and lost of acceleration

hi guys my puma 110 2.4ltr started chucking out black smoke when i accelerated to join a fast road,but the loss of power and it it chucked out more black smoke,i dropped it down a gear and it picked up speed and the smoke stopped,took it to my local landrover garage,and they discovered 3 of the 4 injectors had melted,what on earth has caused this any ideas

how do you mean melted,id have thought it would be smoking badly at all times if the nozzles were damaged

thats what the garage told me, it smoked abit if it laboured up a steep hill but nothing like it did just before christmas clouds of black smoke,the fuel consumption was up abit
