Before anyone shouts.....yes I have done a search ;-)

I want to try bio deisel in my 300TDi.

I've read all the info I can find, but one thing sticks out - check your supplier isn't selling crap stuff.

So can anyone recommend a source of good biodeisel that I can put straight in the tank (ie from a pump) in the Midlands - preferably in the Halesowen or Kidderminster areas?

Or can anyone give advice on how to check out an unknown supplier?

(eg, this one is near me but can I trust it?? Palmer's Garage biodiesel station in Cradley Heath, England - FindBiodiesel.org)

Thanks for any help.

i,ve used him a few times last time about 2 weeks ago with no hassles. but runnin a 2.5 na with a lucas pump i cant run it all the while, the car wash place up the thorns road used to do it anurl but i have,nt been past for a while, there was a place up on doultom road trading estate anurl, but i heard stories his was ****e although i cant confirm

Take a look on BlackCountryLaners there was a thread on there that listed a few places and also look at mud-club. I think both threads are a bit out o date but I had put a few up.

Palmers is ok but expensive when you find out what others charge. They buy from another place in Halesowen who used to sell direct as well but then stopped. However I have heard they are open to public again but only in the week.

I have found one around Kidderminster the nearest to here was Bridgnorth but he's closed and there is a hand car wash place on the A449 around Lower Gornal I think but haven't tried that.

The place in Halesowen used to be the best as they crushed there own seed didn't use much recycled oil and as I said Palmers bought from them.

Some key things with Bio change the fuel filter offten. Carry spare in the car and a small can of derv. I have also found it worth getting some put in a bottle then pour some into small bottle and put in the fridge to see what the cloud point is like.

I wouldn't use 100% bio through winter as it does thicken and it isn't worth been caught out in the morning and it not starting. Best to mix 60/40 or there abouts.

i use palmers no problems in over 2 years and that is in a transit van and the 300tdi disco
would like to know where the one in halesowen is thou

The one in Halesowen I think used to be called Greener Fuels it is on Shelah Rd B63 and they are down near the junction with Hayseech Rd in by the Burger Van. My mate said the last lot he had from them couple of weeks back was 75ppl. They are only open Mon-Fri 8-4 I think.

I'm sure last time I looked on this website (link below) that there were'nt all these in the area.

Maybe I hit an old cached page one of the times.

Anyway, Greener Fuels is listed on here....I'll go and have a look when I get chance.

Yep thats the place not sure they are still selling the Bio under GreenerFuels. As I said the did stop for a bit and they used to supply Palmers. I used to buy from them 200litres at a time.

Also my mate lives over there so as I said told me was 75ppl couple of weeks back.

Best check for any supplier...

look at the liquid, is it clear?... yes it's a yellowy colour but is it misty or clear? then mix a 50/50 amount water and bio (say 250ml each) and shake the hell out of it and let it settle. The water should be as clear as it went in... if not it has soap (caustic) residue. slight discolouration won't hurt but very milky and it may clog the filters.

be aware that biodiesel will clean the fuel system when used frequently and you wil have to change filters a bit more often to start with.

I've done 18,000 on 100% home made BD over the last 18 months, a bit of a hassle in the cold but damn cheap!

Didn't get chance to go look last night (in on my own with kids).

Hopefully will be able to drive round there tonight and see if they have any useful signs.
If so will try and buy some before work on Monday ;-)

Andy did you make your own processor or buy one. Also are you finding it harder to get oil supplies now the prices has gone up.

I did have plans for my own until hot water cylinder was nicked and then haven't had time to source another one or to think about building it. (Had chimney to build for wood stove)

right as said yesterday i would be reporting back today
66 Lts £49.50 = 75p/Ltr
compare that to Tesco's £102.9/Ltr
They are only open 9.00 till 4.00 Mon to Fri but if they get more custurmers they will consider weekend opening
and the stuff in my tank is rapeseed bio

It always was good stuff from them. I used to buy 160litres at a time. But they stopped selling direct for a while and now only open in the week.

As I work in Redditch its not easy to get over there. :(

Hopefully, I'm off to fill my tank with Bio this week.

It's a pain with the opening hours - I have to be late into work just to fuel up, which isn't an option most days, but I'm off on Friday so now is the chance ;-)

Hey Vinnie

Built my own processor... have many suppliers (you need to search far and wide sometimes) now using 50% chip fat (palm oil) in the mix along with any kebab fat that gets in... all good stuff... untill the winter months.
