Disco 2 Discovery 2 specialist in the West Midlands or South Midlands to help sort a leak?

Can anyone recommend a Discovery 2 specialist in the Midlands/South Midlands area (we are in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire)? The garage we use at present specialises in Defenders and whilst they are very good at the mechanicals they do seem to struggle with Discovery specific stuff.

The particular issue I am struggling with at the moment is new leak that has led to a water under the driver's carpet. I have already sorted any possible leaks associated with the sunroof (sealed up), Alpine windows (sealed up) and roof rails (new gaskets) and, having taken the trim off and poking around at the bottom, the water doesn't seem to be coming down the 'A' pillar. From feeling around the only 'high up' damp parts we can find are the back of the carpet to the left of the steering column and the air outlet above the foot rest. Unfortunately I don't know enough about what I'm doing to go much further in the way of removing trim, dashboards etc. so if anyone can help, or knows of someone in the area who can help then we would be very grateful.

HI my carpet was so wet the water was running out the door, it turned out to be 3 leaks, leak one was an rust hole under the drivers side windscreen , leak 2 was after taking off the lower cowl , the wiper motor base plate was rusty and it had broke the seal on the top, the 3rd leak was after welding a patch on the rust hole, I reseam seal the entire area under the cowl you couls see where the water was laying, that when I noticed , the rubber grommets that pass through with the wire for the for the electric heated screen were very loose fit , so I applies a lot of sealer, check out my post "WET CARPETS", I now have had dry carpets since my post, by the way the lower cowl it not a seal it just a bit of protection for the lower edge of the screen

The air con/heater dries the air before use and the condensation (water) is collected in a reservoir under the unit to drain out either side of the prop shaft.
If the outlets of the drains become blocked, the reservoir overflows either side of the transmission tunnel, under the unit into the foot well where you report the wet carpet.

Oh good, three leaks - thanks for cheering me up @frostythor . Thanks for the link to the other post. Useful info but I'm not sure I have the skills to do everything you did.
I have looked at the heated screen cables and as you say the grommets are loose in their holes, so that's one for the list that I could probably do.
Whilst I was under the bonnet I noticed a clump of cables going through the bulkhead but the grommet is displaced - arrowed in the attached photo. Does that go through into the cabin behind the glove box somewhere? If so it might be a possible source of a leak.
I may be on the trail of one leak. I was looking this morning after some rain overnight and noticed some water beneath one of the grommets on the RHS of the driver footwell. I followed it upwards along the side of the black bracket to the seam above the black line at which point the trail went cold.

HI to be honest as the lower cowl is not sealed any water hitting the windscreen will just end up in the area just below the screen and I think that were most of my water was getting in

Hi Keith, I hope you had a good Christmas, that wiring grommet on the bulkhead definitely needs putting back in correctly (there's also one the drivers side) & a bit of Sikaflex or similar won't go a miss. Under the bonnet & near the displaced wiring grommet there's a drain hole in the inner wing (n/s & o/s) check those aren't blocked. Those empty two 8mm bolt holes on the 'A' post is where I had water coming in so I put a couple of bolts in there with Sikaflex on the threads, I think the water was from the sunroof drain or the degrading roof gutter putty which had plenty of Captain Trolleys & Sikaflex to reseal. I also had water from the intake for the heater box below the windscreen but this was v easy to spot dripping of the housing in the passenger footwell, if you search my previous posts you'll see the pics. They sure are a pain as there are so many entry points along with the capillary action of the water it without doubt gets very frustrating. All I can say is best of luck & hope you get it sorted & as always shout if you want any more help.

What garages have you asked so far?

If it comes to it take the carpets out, dry as much as you can with towels/kitchen roll or whatever ...

Dust the area with talc and wait to see the water tracks, it helps to narrow down or eliminate areas of concern ...

Worked for my D1, but is good for all vehicle types ...

Hi All, have been watching this thread since start!
Have a similar problem with mine at the mo! Just had the front windscreen replaced, where some welding had to be done around the frame! So I hope the leaking has been sorted? (Landrover owner!! Something tells me it hasn't ).
But the replies on this post have given me some areas that I will need to investigate?
I will need to pull the dash out in better weather though, as there were some rusting areas that will need to be done

HI again yes I had to take my carpet out, it had gallons of water in it took a few weeks to dry out, still lots of undersealing done inside while it was out

I haven't really tried any yet, what with New Year and all that. I know from the sunroof leak issues that MM4x4 in Droitwich, who we often use for parts, won't touch leak related work. There are a few companies around who work on Land Rovers but before I started ringing people up I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations, especially in relation to Discovery 2s.

Thank you to everyone for their suggestions. I would like to at least start to look at this problem myself but with nowhere undercover to park or work on the car, and with the weather the way it is at the moment it's a bit tricky.

I might look to see if I can get a cover for when it's parked up. That might at least stop the inside getting any wetter until the weather improves.

May be worth contacting Astwood

Air con drains is always the first port of call for this problem as a quick poke cost zilch in time and money!

I have looked at Astwood previously but as with so many firms their website suggests they only work with old Defenders, but worth a call.

Someone has also suggested 4x4 Development in Cutnall Green.

having reread your first post, it says the water does not appear to come out of the bottom of the 'A' post, I looked at that on my D2, as well, so went under it a located the bottom of the 'A: post where to has a slopping side to the out side an just drill a small hole the pocked up a small welding rod to move and debris about it drains now

This is the sunroof/ A Pillar drain on the sill of the D2. Often gets covered over with waxoil etc. needs cleaning out with a cable tie.

Sometimes they will do the odd live axle other job, but I tend to use them or M&M.

When I go to work (pre pandemic) on the way home I went past Astwood.

They have done quite a bit of chassis welding for me.

Not heard of those, so within 15 miles got Astwood, Cutnall, M&M, Droitwich, little place in Hanbury, Egdons

Air con drains are two duckbill rubber valves one either side of the gearbox tunnel, they just need a squeeze and a poke too to dislodge any crud blocking them from draining,
