Went for a long drive yesterday, probs about 7 hours total. Was all very pleasant and landy ran smoothly and faultlessly. Got home last night, parked up all being well.

This morning I got to the car and saw a big puddle of oil on ground on the inside of the front passenger side wheel. (smells like gear oil not engine oil).

Anyone know what is likely to have caused it and if it will be a difficult or expensive fix?

Would agree that its a swivel seal has failed ;
One easy option would be be to use the one-shot swivel grease from Land Rover - comes in a tube and you can use it instead of oil ; lasts a long time and seal will hold it in - so you won't have to change the seal .:)

I was going to guess wheel bearing seal if such a thing existed, swivel seal seems pretty logical given the location of the leakage.

Will I be OK to drive 45mins to my mates workshop without wreaking anything?

Actually I may not be able to get it repaired properly until after Christmas. Will a sachet of 1 shot swivel grease keep me on the road until then?

Biggest risk is oil on the tyre and brakes.....clean everything up before you go and stop and repeat if necessary

How much oil was there? a swivel holds about a mug full.

I've just done both of mine, bugger of a job but glad its done now, I had just a dribble of oil but it was enough to spray the back door after a drive! The mot guy advised he would fail it next time if not fixed. Used one-shot again, seems happy so far.

It probably was about a mug full. I bought some 1 shot today as a temporary bodge. MOT is due in Jan so I'll get everything sorted out then.
