Evening all, hoping for the benefit of the collective wisdom on the Forum.

Wired up the light bar on the roof recently but hadn't any need to use them until last night. Switched them on with main beam and it was bleddy awful. All working fine but the light pattern from the admittedly cheap rectangular lamps was woeful. Glare was unbelievable, and I saw less with them on than with full beam alone.

Now, I've read a few threads warning of the glare off the bonnet but that wasn't so much the issue, the problem was that it was as if the spots were pointed straight into the windscreen.

Probably the laps themselves as I say, so wondering if any of you have any recommendations on what type/make to fit or any other workarounds. Eg would round spots give a better beam, or might lamps mounted above the bar rather than underslung be marginally better - low branches permitting?

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Cheers

The bold above says it all, especially the red bit. Why do you think you need more than two headlamps to see where you're driving at night, what if car drivers started using silly f king light bars on the roof, who the hell would be able to see where the f cku they where going cos of all the glare.
Wise up all you roof bar lights knobbers, they ain't needed, they ain't legal. Just plain daft and stupid.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

The roof lights I brought for mine eliminate, in my opinion, 90% of the normal bonnet/dash glare you normally get and basically turn night into day.
They are exceptional. Fecking expensive, but exceptionally awesome.

Seems that I've given the wrong impression here - did i mentioned using them on the road?

Thought he idea of fitting high level lights was to help illuminate the terrain ahead so you can see what lies behind the obstacle in front, see the depth of the pothole, rut etc that would otherwise be in shadow from the light of headlamps alone, and like warrior i'm running them through relays and a dash switch so not always on with high beam.

Not looking at doing the Dakkar or anything of the like, or blind road users with hundreds of watts of lighting power, just trying to improve offroad visibility. that's what roofbars are for aren't they?

Mine get used off road that's why I have them, and I mean off road not greenlanes, they are still roads

Ain't need? Maybe but an extra 520 watts definitely helps you see off road

Ain't legal? Who saying they are been used on the road?

They do some nice LED ones these days, a long strip so no need for a bar and 5 individuality light pods, brighter and more direct as they are LED's too

The cheap option ive found are the standard round spotlights made by ring .

Unless law changed you can put spot lights where you like so long as you dont dazzle other road users . Its fog lights that have positioning requirements

hi do you have a link for the square lamps ya got on your light bar mate

I had mine imported as we've got friends in America, but here's a link to a UK supplier.

RIGID INDUSTRIES - Dually LED Aux flood/spot lights - Pair - 2600 Lumens IP68 | eBay

They do 2 different types - spot or flood. I've got the spot lights in the middle of the bar and the flood lights on the outer. The results of the combination of the 2 is just awesome.

Full info on all of their products can be found here:

Hope this helps. :)
