Had my RAC renewal through recently and have decided to change my cover due to my wife getting cover via her Bank account.

Went for Personal cover with "At home" and "Recovery" and got quoted £110.55. Told the lady that online, new members get it for £82.07 and she matched the price. So all was good until I opened my big mouth and mentioned that I used my Landy for business

They now want £124.00

Can anyone recommend someone cheaper BUT offering the same level of service? Green FLag were coming out at £145 and the AA was £107 for Personal cover but I think it excludes commercial use vehicles?

Me and my big mouth

You can always ring them up again and start the process from scratch. (and hopefully talk to someone else) They may not have stored the information on their system while trying to get you a quote.

I'm with the AA and I wish I was with the RAC. The RAC can get a rough idea of where the caller is calling from. (If using a mobile phone) This is very helpful for those who have no idea where they are. I've been in that situation a couple of times in the past and it's a pain. Though, when the patrol does come, they don't usually have any trouble finding me. I make myself sound like a regular customer...

I did consider this, but as I was already a member, I'm sure they added it to their system.:(

I doubt it if they were only inputting data to retrieve a quote. There's no harm in trying. They aint gonna come chasing after ya in their RAC vans!

Just had a brain wave. Look on Top CashBack - The UK's Most Generous CashBack Site. Its a website that gives you money back. Its really good and completly legal etc. They basically get the comission back for what the sellers usually get. I have a feeling you will get a good deal on there. You will have to wait a little to get the money back, but you will. I have made loads of money from it from buying the same stuff through the same websites i was initially going to get it from, you just follow the link from theie site. Just remember to clear your cookies on your computer first so it tracks the order properly.

I get full AA with my bank, Lloyds TSB. You have to pay for the account but you get loads of other stuff too. Could be worth a look.

Check the type of cover you receive with this. People have been caught out when they found out its a bare minimum, ie the recovery truck only took them 50 miles or so and they had to pay the rest.

sounds like a con but isn't, it's a pay and claim service, £37 a year for full cover, nationwide recovery inc taking you wherever you want to go

When you break down you ring the number, they send someone out who either fixes it or tows you wherever you want to go, you have to pay the recovery guy then claim it back.

I don't use it any more as I get recovery through my bank account but when I did I claimed £80 and got it back in less than a week, it's administered by equity red star so not a fly by night company

Yeah it does depend on which account you have. Owning a defender, i get Full, which includeds home start and stay mobile ( a free hire car for the first 72 hours of breakdown)

I also get things like travel insurance, mobile phone insurance, both of which i have already used in six months, so at the moment, its worked out cheaper for me.

Cheers Rob, I wish I had known about this a few days ago. I've just renewed my wife's car insurance and bought my daughter a netbook - both online

It looks like I may save some ££ via the AA though.

Thanks.

Its a great website, one of the boys at work has made nearly a grand this year from it. He Shifts his energy provider around on his house every few months. I think he gets over a hundred pounds back each time he does it.

It can actually get addictive!!

Cheers
