Guys

Know its probably been covered before but wanted the most upto date info.

What do we think is the best clutch to replace a TD5 one, my original is now starting to slip at 88K so time for a new one before the winter sets in.

I cant tell u what's the best i just can tell that i've fitted a Britpart HD kit and it works brilliant....after i had to remove the gearbox again cos the first AP kit was sh*t ... made me bleed the system for hours and still had hard engagement in 1'st and reverse gear....maybe it's just a matter of luck.... i dunno

how much was that kit others have said avoid britpart like a plague.

I know m8, like others said that AP is the best.... as i said it's a matter of luck i think ... IMO britpart isnt that bad if the parts are pure metal... they have a problem with parts containing plastic, rubber, wires, gaskets, etc. The kit i used was £325 including the flywheel(i didnt pay VAT). A friend of mine used a borg & beck kit (2 years unlimited miles warranty, about £90, no flywheel) which works fine too but on other forum somebody says it's "rubbish". Make some investigations then make your own choice... if you're not an unlucky guy it'll work just fine no matter what brand it is;)

Mine was quite thread, and cos i was forced to remove the gearbox twice and i had some extra money i've decided to replace it too ... u dont have to replace it if it's in good shape.

Second time when i changed the clutch 4 years ago i didnt touch the flywheel and the Sachs clutch kit(which i couldnt find again) worked as a dream.

been lucky doesnt change basic principles you start fitting clutches without dual mass for a living and see how far you get,the odd lucky one wont impress the rest

just ben quoted about £500 to do clutch on my td5 90 i am assuming this would include the flywheel. how long is the set time for this job.

For what its worth just had mine done (couldnt face taking the box out on the drive) asked about hd at jsf in norwich they have fitted a few all ended with trouble of one sort or another and as the original has done me 90,000 with a fair amount of towing and field use and it is still very smooth on road have gone for clutch and flywheel original equipment, kit was just under £400 fitting and all oils including diffs approx £400 labour.

£800 that sounds expensive, are they a main dealer.

No they are an independant but they had one or two issues rusted bolts on cross member,in the original build some wires had been trapped in the bellhousing which had to be replaced so not so bad and this was as i indicated the estimate will advise when bill comes through.
