Hi,
I just bought a p38 as abit of a project. I have one as a daily drive and this was orginally meant to be for parts however now I want to see if I can get it going properly.

No power is coming to the cable directly to the left of the fuses on the becm. It's maxi fuse 4 I think inside the engine bay. When I looked at that fuse inside the engine bay It was blown. However even when replacing the fuse still no joy with power to the becm.
I tired switching the power inputs on the surrouding cables on the becm and it still does not spark. I'm thinking possibly is it not grounding. Where would this grounding for this cable be.

Right now the climate control (HEVAC) has no power... I get the windows NOt set error and non move up or down. The wipers are not working however I think this is a relay. The previous owner said the wipers stopped working first and then it spread?? I jumped the relay for the wipers at the start to get them working. It was raining on the way home. However another person attempted the same and now they dont work at all. I'm thinking they blew a fuse. However have not checked.

I'm more concered about everything else because I think the problems are all related.

I'm also getting the SRS message. (light) THe abs error also happens sometime.

What do you guys think? How would one check the ground for that input.

Thanks,
Peter

theanswers? What were you thinking of when selecting a user name:D

Besides, if you get life in the becm get the codes read, might help you a lot, if at a garage/indie bring a camera and take photos of the screens or get it on paper, reset faults and see what faults pop up...

Is there a seperate negetive (Ground) for each of the three inputs? I'm starting to think all my problems are with the becm... Thats where the power is getting to but not going any further.
I will use the wire which goes onto that connetor(the one with no spark) to power something else. That will let me know if power is getting that far. Which I think it is. I'm thinking the ground within the becm is at fault.

How would one go about fixing that...?

Wipers and Windows are both monitored by the BeCM....if you are not getting power to the BeCM then this could cause this result....

On a second note, the BeCM controls the Message Centre...if the BeCM isn't powered how is it sending these 'Not Set' messages to the display??

Only the one cable to the becm to not powered. When I manually jumped the relay in the engine bay the stok on the steering wheel was able to control wiper speed.
I think it is only certain parts of the becm which are not working. I might try fixing/ or replacing the top board on the becm. Will this require a re sync. how does one access Rave. What program to access it do you use? I have it downloaded.
Thanks

Before you play with the BECM, take the under bonnet fuse box out, dry joints, corrosion and burnt connectors are common and the poor old BECM often gets the blame. You may need to separate the 2 parts to check.

I'm thinking that too. however is the Radio and HEVAC on the same output? Therefore should they both not be working. The radio is working fine.

Also windows NOT SET is on the dash and yet non of the windows work.

I think the Windows Not Set message will always be displayed after a baterry disconnection until the anti-traps have been set by putting them all the way down and back up again, though this might be difficult to do if they are not working, sorry if this is useless info.

:nothingtoadd:

I've just realised something. The radio would work even if the car is switched off. Whereas everything else would not, you know. Wipers, HEVAC, windows only work when the key switch is in position 1/2. not when It is off. Where would the wire be that tells the BECM that the key is in the other positions.

I think we have it figured...

The auxiliary circuit to the radio should not be live until the key is turned to aux position,so it might be worth pulling the radio and check for any non-standard wiring or repairs behind it.Especially to find out if it has been fed a permanent live from somewhere else.Just a thought.:)

just another thought check wiring connecters located behind kick panel on the drivers side there are 2 or 3 which have a habit of filling up with water after water runs down the loom from bulkhead underneath expansion tank and corroding badly had this before on a p38 with strange leccy issues
but still say fuse box would be my first port of call in engine compartment

The radio can work all the time, no matter what position the key is in...

The kick panel seems ok, lots of wires are messey in there.

What do you guys think? Ignition input 1 or 2? It's either or that is faulty for sure.
I'm thinking it's number two because that is the one which when selected the power comes to everything. Is it the input or output of the cable on the becm I should check or both?

My job has become harder because the drivers door decided to give up and no longer opens... ahhh.

thanks/
