Just as I thought all was going well and the weather is deteriorating.
Warning messages galore. 1 tranmission failure 2 gear box failure
3 Gearbox overheating.
Then total instrument failure.
New battery = life again but I can not re-set windows or sunroof.
I have now been told I need £600-00 worth of Becm.
But the forums say I need to change the underbonnet fuse box every 5 years or less.
Advice would be nice

Do you actually know how to reset the sunroof and windows properly? If not, move each window fully down and hold for 3 secs. Then fully up and hold for 3 secs. Do the same with the sunroof. Fully slid open, hold. Close, hold. Fully tilt, hold, close, hold. Jobs a good-un.

If you do know all that, sorry. But your post count is 7 so I figured you might be new to P38's!

Why do you need a new BECM?

Nik

When you re-set the windows, did you do it with all the doors closed and cycle each window singularly fully down hold the straight back up again, then hold the button in the closed position until it comes up as window set, then go onto the next window...

Also check your drivers footwell for a damp carpet - could be moisture inside the BeCM...

Hope this time we won't have to wait another 9 months before you offer a resolution to a thread like we had to for your EAS problem!! :)

Man I should be in the UK with an LR "specialist garage" would be a millionaire before the year is out. 600GBP for a window reset and I thought the stealers here were bad.

Thanks. This is my first P38, I opened and shut all the windows but didn't hold them for 3 seconds. I'll try that. When I tried the sunroof it froze in the tilt up position for ten mins while I fiddled with the awitch and ignition. when it finally shut I left it there.
The local 4x4 garage said it was most likely corrode socket and plugs going to the BECM and it might need replacement.

Another get rich quick merchant trying to empty your wallet:mad:

Took my Rangy in on Tuesday. After an hour I went back and was told my alternator was only producing 11 volts, and as everything I was having problems with was running off the alternator there was the problem. Oh and no charge ! Always knew he was one of the good guys after all he was origionally guessing over the phone.
So one new alternator later. plus re-setting the windows the right way and no warnings so far.
Might get time to try it out properly on Monday.
