Hi, my 1999 p38 has flashed up a LH indicator failure and believe a RH side light failure but it hasnt popped up again since I have run it up on the drive with the lights on.
I am going on a long run with it at the end of the week and want to nip any poblems in the bud before I go.
Any suggestions apart from waiting untill it stops altogether?

Cheers

Mike

Common symptoms of BECM failure is either phantom bulb failure messages or more often the rear wiper not working. Be wary of buying BECM's from Egay as they will have to be rewritten to suit your car, plus you will need the Lockset Code (Approx. 13 digits) for your vehicle. Your LR Dealer can get this for you but will need sight of the Registration Document/proof of ownership and possibly I.D. Provided the BECM is unlocked, it can be recoded. Also,be sure that the BECM matches the car specification as there are "High" & "Low" specs. New BECM will cost around £750 fitted by a good Independant service company.

Cheers for your reply, I hope to find somthing wrong with the bulbs but I am not confident as it is not constant.
I will look at the bulbs later as I have not been near the vehicle to do that yet.
If the bulbs are all in order and without replacing the BECM can this problem be dealt with by use of the landrover diagnostic kit?

Cheers

Hi all

I now get the RH side bulb problem but checked all the lights and they all work fine. Comes on as soon as the key goes in. Could it be the sensor or is it likely the BECM?

IF this is a problem with the BECM is the box fixable or does it require a new one?

Cheers

Adam

Also have an intermittent alarm fault that seems to go away after driving some distance which would indicate battery, i guess. Don't know if it is related or if it is just a loose connection?

Right, did a long drive to Scotland today and found that all the lights on the vehicle work fine but it will pop up on the dash that they have all failed.
As the day has gone on these warnings have dissapered but not sure yet if this is for good.

Any further suggestions than to just leave it alone?

Mike

Its probably one or more of the MOSFET on the power board (the upper section board of the BeCM) that has failed. IT IS possible to buy a second hand BeCM on eBay and swap the power boards over but its a bit of an unknown as you dont know what the state of the replacement power board is.

HI, the warnings have not come back and believe it is from having a good run and the battery getting a bit more of a charge.
Heard that they suffer when the batterys get a bit low on juice and do funny things, did'nt really believe it myself but it must be right.
Will be keeping it on trickle charge when it's not been used often or when it'd doing short journeys.

Hope that helps some of you to save a few quid and hassle.

Condensation inside the BECM from wet carpets can cause funny things to happen. A long run may have generated enough heat to dry things out. Check for we carpet.:)
