My friend - purley bus'ness y-no.

has a 2000 freelander softback and the back window keeps dropping. Normally happens when you shut the door or go over a bump. If you press the window button it doesnt go up, but if you leave it a while it will then press the button it'll work.

Its been into a fixers and they looked at the wiring and sorted some of the connections out. But its happened again.

any takers????

The back window usually drops as a result of the battery being disconnected for more than 10 secs, which powers down the Body Control Unit - so it loses its memory of where the rear window is.
You need to check the battery connections, earths and the multiplugs on the BCU.I suppose it could also point to a failing BCU aswell. You will need the wiring diagram from the Rave CD for your car to show you where to check.

ok thatll do to start with.

time to dig out a rave cd(big fish, big fish, make a box etc etc, its been dun but hey,,,,,,)

thanks all!

I dont get that....

Are you referring to the dance move big fish, little fish, cardboard box, as in a RAVER

You might wanna check position of rear wiper mechanism, its linked in with window ecu

absolutley, those were the days. it be great if i could remember them.

will check wiper mechanism. mind you shes only gone and booked it into a dealership. must be made of money.

That'll larn 'er

Check the micro switch on R/H side, this depresses when removable soft top frame is refitted, and allows rear window to be RAISED again. This switch sends a "roof on" signal to CCU but if roof is not fitted correctly or switch is faulty window goes down, sometimes intermittently, try pressing down on R/H side of hood, at base of "C" POST and operate window switch at the same time ( with help of course )" BEST OF LUCK"

no - the window can be raised an lowered at any time - moving or not - although the hand book says you shouldnt drive with it open, because of fumes.

its all sorted. was the micro switch.

also i see loadsof people riding around with the back window open. and with the dog hanging out. so fumes maybe are'nt a problem. i spect most people would worry more about mutly rather than their ankle biters or mother in law!

mmm comman problem normaly happens just after a nice break in the wether and the tops bin off..... ive sprayed my microswitch with wd40 and a bit od duck oil.... fine now... but not at the time when bouncing down with rain.

oh ! didnt know you could do that with the factory fob..... ive binned mine and fitted a laserline cat1 with full closer unit .2 windows and back window. ive got button 3 to make my back window go down.:)

Do you not also have to have stopped moving to put the window back up or is that just mine

No you don't need to be stationary.
Press hood frame at base of C post and turn key in tailgate lock clockwise at same time, if window moves its the micro switch at fault.

hi i'm a softtop novice .... but got the same problem in that now that i have my softtop fitted the tailgate window will not rise . everyone keeps talking about the micro switch but where is it and what does it look like??? thanks

on the back inside the locating hole for the roof. . i had to strip the rear interier out on one side to get to it. quick clean with wd40 or other good lubricating cleaner. spot on..
