Recently replaced belt tensioner and aux belt, got the belt on with no help **** easy, now the weird bit. have just replaced a broken alternator bracket, put every thing back, same belt ,same tensioner same alternator, new bracket. but the belt will not go on, tensioner fully back ( and not touching the belt )but belt needs to be a few mm longer. Do belts shrink once they have been on, it seems the only logical explanation . Any ideas ??

Is the new bracket the same size as the last one? Have you tried turning the engine by hand to get the belt to drop over the final pulley.;)

Definitely the right bracket, will try turning over by hand. That may get it on, still can't understand why the belt is tighter now than before, gonna buy a new one and check the lengths first. If it is that tight could it not put strain on some of the pulley's.

So the belt is still tight even when the tensioner is doing nothing? Maybe thats why the old bracket broke? You sure its the correct belt?

Yes like i said everything was perfect when i replaced tensioner and belt a couple of months back all went on no problem. now putting all the same parts back on the belt won't fit,
UPDATE.
bought a new belt from same main dealer exactly same part number, just measured the old belt it measured 67" the new one measures 67 3/4". the only answer is that the belts must shrink with use??? I know I have been through some deep water lately but im well confused. Any land rover main dealer mechanics on here i would like to know if you have had this.
