I'm thinking that the ABS ECU or Ipack could be at fault. Both can do the odd things you are experiencing.

I'd change the ABS ECU first as it doesn't need coding to the car.

Yes, I agree. If it was an older car I could just swap the ABS ecu straight over as they are separate units. Mines the newer all in one unit, and they have been known to cause issues. Can get mine reconditioned or try a eBay special. Still a **** to swap though.
Instrument pack is just a case of strip down and inspect. Again I could send it off for testing. But I'll try first:D

Just found this,
https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/td4-intrument-cluster.291402/

Exact same fault as mine, might be the way forward?
I shall go sacrifice a goat and two chickens to the God of td4 and look at a second hand unit, around £40, after I've inspected mine :)

Looking at that old thread, the Ipack is suspect.
The mileage will change to whatever the dash was displaying before it was removed. I can't see why that is a problem, unless the MOT system flags up a discrepancy

Well, I found a replacement instrument pack, £36 from eBay with warranty. So bought it. At that price it's got to be worth a go.
I know the bloke at the mot center, so I'll just have a word with him. ;)

And if you want a definitive answer on the mileage. It does change to the new Ipack mileage.
Original was 133000ish
Now shows 108000ish
Have taken photos etc to show the mot people, so hopefully they'll put a note on the mot paperwork.
Mike
Be interesting to see if it logs any mileage mismatch codes on that.

Quick update.
New instrument pack has been on a couple of weeks. Taken the Freelander on a couple of long runs and various small trips. And so far so good :).
Not saying it's definitely fixed yet, need a month of running about as this fault was so intermittent. But it's looking good so far.
Mike

1 month, still going strong.
Fingers, legs and arms crossed:)

Mike
So now you have got to extend the trial period to 3 months Mike ;)

I've just fixed a problem that was bugging me. I auto was reluctant to change down when full throttle was needed, even if dropping the gear put the engine into a better power producing range.
The fix was to fit a new MAF. The box now changes down on demand, simply by pressing the throttle. So the ECU is using the MAF signal to work out torque produced, before sending the information to the TCM.
I wonder what the Troll would think of that? ;)

Glad you've got that maf working. Thought the car sounded great on that video.

I'm keeping out of that other thread, can't be doing with arse holes who don't read stuff or understand basic engineering:oops:

The new MAF has made a massive difference to the way the engine responds to throttle inputs. Consequently the TCM is working the box correctly. My box changes smoother and at the right time, so I'm happy :)
I'm glad you're problem appears to be sorted ;).
I understand your stance on the other matter ;)

Glad changing the instrument panel appears to have fixed your problem. I had exactly the same symptoms and was recommended to change the instrument panel and was about to do so when my Hippo went in for diagnostic testing and mine turned out to be an intermittent fault on one of the rear wheel sensors, which once changed, resolved all the symptoms...... So if it reappears, you might want to check out the rear wheel sensors......

Nodge, Thanks for that. My V6 has the same issue. When I put my foot in it reacts like there is a big vacuum leak, or for that matter, terrible turbo lag from the non-existant turbo. I will have to try a new MAF and see if it helps.
Did you use an LR MAF or aftermarket
Cheers

I am trying out a cheap £25 Ebay MAF. Mine is a turbo diesel however.
I suspect you issue could well be a VIS motor, which commonly fill with oil on the V6.
I've read about the E throttle servo giving issues too. Have you read the codes?

Ah! For some reason I thought yours was a V6.
Unfortunately my Diagnostic gadget (Blackbox Nano) has packed it in and will be going back to the manufacturer for a refit next week so I unable to do engine diagnostics for the time being..
I will take a look at the VIS motors and see if that is the issue.
FWIW, As for MAF sensors over here we seem to have a choice between factory units for $400.+ or VDO for $129. I think I know which I would go for!
