Freelander 1 td4 intrument cluster

hello, ive got a 2002 td4 freelander with an internedent fault on the clocks, my local landrover place put it on there computer and the fault came up has the instrument cluster itself , i have looked at mine and the part numbers then checked ebay , but none of the part numbers match up, do i just need a 2002 td4 intrument cluster or have i gotto get one with 100% matching numbers .Mine has YAC500410 .
your help would be greatly apriciated, i have tried a search but could match anything up to my problem.

Yes - just checked the parts catalogue and there is no supercession to/from that part so you will need to use the part number.

Not sure of the changes between the different part numbers though.

What's the issue with the pack?

thank you, the fault is intermitant, when driving along the 3 amigo lights come on, the rev counter stops working and the speedo stops working, the handbrake light comes on aswell, if i bang the dash/clocks it all starts working again except the tc and hill decent lights stay on till i turn the ignition off and back on. The landrover man read the faults and said it was the instrument pack . It started doing it after i jump started someone so think i may have zapped something but the landrover man reconed its a bad connection, but not sure where. could you confirm that the YAC500410 is the part number?

I may be wrong, but I don't believe you can simply swap the IPACK without LR diagnostic equipment. I don't think a second hand IPACK will work either. I'd remove the IPACK and took for bad connections in the harness or tracks on the back.

ok mate thank you, i did ask the landrover man when he put it on diagnostics if it was just a case of swopping or would he need it plugged back in to get it all working and he said to just swop it over it would be fine, but like you he suggested stripping mine and look for the bad connection but tbh i`m not very good at electical problems but have asked my brother to give me a hand to see if he can see a bad connection. The part numbers are based on a VIN range so PM me your VIN and I'll confirm the right part number for you.

Sounds like a loose wire in the CAN somewhere or power/earth is dropping off for the pack

And you can't swap a pack without configuring it. Where are you based?

I swapped mine out for a second hand one - no programming, no messing, just unplugged the old one and slammed in the replacement.

Get one from a car with the same engine and similar age. There are a couple of different clock face styles so make sure its the same.

The new clocks display whatever mileage they were at in their original car, which wont match what your ECU thinks. This shows up when diagnostics are plugged in but makes no difference in use. You could probably have it reprogrammed to display your correct mileage if you are bothered.

im based by leominster ,herefordshire, i will get the chassis number for you tomorrow td4van if thats ok . I cant make it do it, it can go weeks and be fine , then can happen loads of times on a short journey.

I concur with Dave. Just swap it over. Done this before for the same reasons you've stated. Mileage can be changed but it's costly. ISTR it being around £100 but that was from a main stealer. So I didn't bother.

Just following up on this incase it helps someone else, i kept an eye out on ebay and the correct part number instrument pack came up, so i bought and fitted them. Everything works as it should but i now display the milage for the new clocks not the vehicle. The original fault with the lights is also sorted. Many thanks to those that helped with suggestions.

If you had fried something then it would be fried, so physically banging it would not help. Electronic components do not fail in that way.
There is probably a dry joint on the circuit board which can be resoldered if it can be found. Probably a TV repair shop or similar could do it.
