Update.
Still working, and the synergy is back on.
So I'm calling this fixed now.

Freebies running like a dream currently, time to start fixing the few niggles its got,
Bifold mirror has packed up
ARB bushes to replace
Ideally the shocks need replacing

But I believe it's worth spending money on now, I was getting worried the electrics were shot and that it would need a full rewire, new abs pump and various other bits to rectify the issue, that would have been ££££££££'s

Quite relieved really:)

Does your auto still hunt when it changes to 5th? Mine is still doing it, but not so much now the weather is colder. This make no sense, but that's how it seems.

Goes up and down the box like a dream. Only a slight hiccup from 1st to 2nd when its really cold.
Took it a while to settle down after the multiple atf changes, but it was getting alot better, and when I cleaned the MAF that really sorted it.

Mine is perfect except for the odd occasion when going into 5th. It drops into 5th smoothly but then locks the TC half a second later. The TCM then realises that the engine is running too slow for the TC to be locked, so it unlocks it again. It then stays in 5th with the TC unlocked until the engine speed is sufficient for the TC to lock again. It's very odd behaviour, but it's always done it. I hope to find a cure one day. Maybe I should change the Ipack?

Swapping the instrument pack made quite alot of difference to the car, hard to explain it, it just works better!
It is possible to send it away and have it refurbished, but as they're so cheap second hand, there's not much point.
The slipping into 5th could just be to much torque as your synergy is set so high. Mines only on 2.

My synergy is set to 8 at the moment. When it was on 10, the box hunted quite a lot. Setting it to 8 has given a nice compromise between torque and power. The box doesn't hunt at all. It's just this TC lock on, off, on thing to solve. I think I'll do another fluid change after Christmas. It's not going to harm it anyway.

Thing is, we can not directly compare our Freelanders. Pre facelift has extra components in the jatco box and a slightly different engine tune. Yours has no intermediate speed sensors and iirc a slight detune compared to mine. This was in response to pre facelift models destroying the auto box, mine cost £800 to fix:eek:
So basically, yours will do different stuff to mine;)

@Nodge68
Took it for a run last night, and tried to work out when the TC locked.
Changes into 5th at around 43mph approx 2000rpm, then the lock up varies on how hard the accelerator is pressed.
Normal driving up to 10 seconds then revs drop to 1500rpm at 40mph.
Under acceleration, lock up doesn't occur until I let off accelerator, then it locks in, hardly noticeable.

That's how my V6 box worked.

My current TD4 is fine in all gears, except for 5th. I feel the TC is to keen to lock. It changes into 5th at 40ish. Sometimes the TC locks at the same time. Then the TCM realises that the TC shouldn't be locked. The TC then unlocks again until the Rpm is high enough and throttle input is low enough to allow it lock again.
Otherwise the trany works as it should. If I use "sport" it works at it should. I think an adaptation has been stored which is incorrect. However my I930 won't even connect to the box, so I can't check for codes.
When I first got this FL I used my Bluetooth OBD2 dongle and Torque on my Droid. I had a code for gearbox speed sensor error. I thought that was odd for an OBD2 code. I cleared it and it's never returned. However I'd love to get the codes read. I might well have a speed sensor fault. Who knows.

The old P0500 code, VSS fault. Mine had that, but hasn't come back since clearing it. Think it might just be one of those codes that's generated every now and then when the canbus hasn't got its act together.

That's the one. It was only there once.
I need to find someone local with T4. I want to clear down the adaptive values. I also want to fit the US spec outside temperature gauge.
