Done one last week 26 ft twin axle.
AA going through a bit of a restructure employing in certain areas to increase staff in busyer parts of country.

The AA will also not undertake ANY tricky jobs themselves. If you get bogged, lose your keys for your car and it's parked in the top of a multi storey carpark etc the AA will send out subcontractors to do the dirty work.

Ask some of the guys in vans about multi storey cp keys lost/locked in car would be a god send, taking lockout kit up to the top sure is better than taking trolley jack and tool box up.
 
AA are useless.
None of their london wagons are crew cabbed.Alright if your the only one in the motor but if yer using any of them lovely seats dont bother breaking down!They took 9 hrs to get me 80 miles in the middle of the night.Green flag are much better-so much so they get my repeat custom.

All depends each case is different a brand new RR is covered by mondial at the moment so wouldn't get it.
I've done brand new Volvo xc90(i think it was)the 4x4 auto one stuck in park no keys in parking slot in centre nottingham without to hassle.
recovered many many LR's wi locked up boxes.

If the keys are lost on a car in a multi storey the AA will either send out a locksmith or an independent garage.

you sound like one of the better AA patrols. For that I can't knock you. But.......

I am a recue technician working for an Independent garage that you guys hate so much.

I deliberately drive an old truck because it is far more versatile than 'ANYTHING' the AA has. I can wade in flood water up to my windscreen height. I can recover up to 3.5 tons. Driving a flatbed I can recover any 4x4 myself if required without calling an additional vehicle. I can winch to a range of 300m with what I carry onboard and can extend that to 500m if I pop back to my landy to get the additional equipment. I carry a full toolkit, Diagnostic computer, laptop, extensive lockout kit, waders, slippery jims, puncture repair kit, locking wheel nut removers, I carry many used spare parts that I do not charge customers for. (crank sensors, cam sensors, coil packs, clutch/accelorator cables, leads points, distributor caps, remote receivers etc etc)

I work for AA, RAC, Greenflag, Brittania, Mondial, Rescue service, Autohome, AXA, Equity, GEM, etc etc.

It doesn't matter which club I co out on behalf of. I treat ALL members the same. I will always tell any member the best/cheapest way of dealing with their particular problem. I am not in the habit of ripping people off and hate peole that are. I will do everything I can to get a car going again as quickly and cheaply as possible.

I have mates in all the breakdown clubs and if there is something I don't know I will ring them to get any extra information I need. If there is something they don't know they will ring me.

I think to say the AA is best is wrong. I would NEVER go with the AA purely because I don't want my loved ones sat on the side of the road with no cover after an accident. Until the day the AA change that policy I will NOT recomment them to ANYONE.

Like I say this is not an attack on you cos you sound like one of the better patrols out there. Yes there are jobsworths that work for greenflag, but there are jobsworths that work in every breakdown club. I just pride myself on not being one of them.:)
 
My brother is with autoaid and rates them very highly, he had a very badly behaved Citroen Picasso and they helped him out time and again including home start at the very low cost. AA, on the other hand, are a dirty word in our family- my Father in law got stuck in some mud on the grass verge and could not budge as one of his driving wheels feel into a tight little hole. The AA showed up and said they wouldn't pull him out unless he paid £75 even though the guy was parked up with his tow bar 6 ft from the car so it was like 1 mins work. Thankfully he told them to get stuffed and got me to pull it out with my landie for nowt!

My family had been with the AA for years,time out of mind,dad had a transport business and took in a lot of repair work and everything was cool,until on day they decided that I was using the relay service too often and whacked up the premium for all of us.This was some years ago mind.Since then we all been with RAC...had mixed experiences but more good than bad.The patrolmen have been helpful always trying to get you going but relaying without a fuss if they realise you know what you are talking about when you tell them the vehicle is XXXXed.

The independents have been the best,I always end up having a good laugh swopping stories with them.Ther was an occassion when a bristo; based bloke had his cargo breakdown while recovering me....but since I used to service them I fixed it and again,we had a laugh.

No complaints from RAC yet,but Ive got greenflag cover too,just in case.Its worth paying to be sure you will get the service you need,when you need it.

:)Sorry for not replying sooner had to go to a 21st birthday party(lots of 21 year old girls getting drunk it was awful)
I agree ratty;deffinatly good and bad in every trade.
I like yourself try to do the best I can,only sometimes we have our hands tied by some person sat behind a computer screen in an office telling us we cannot do what makes perfect sense.
It is very frustrating for us,so now I never ask office for permission I just do it and face the music later(if they find out)
I am sure you know only to well what it is like when you contact Oldbury and get an inexperienced callhandler/dispatcher.
I don't take anything to heart said about the AA because I know its not perfect by a long way and I do not bleed yellow if cut!
I do love doing the job though and would wether I was working for AA/RAC or indi.

just got RAC breakdown cover online, i couldnt put the codes (got a couple) in online, you have to quote them over the phone which i did, it turns out you get a 25% discount when you apply online which is the exact same discount i would get quoting them over the phone, so £71.25 for "personal cover - national recovery" which is basically all i wanted (if i break down on the way to my holiday they will get me there). good price?
