autos good - as said no clutch to burn out, but you got no engine braking and you can't 'feel' the terrain so well imo
that said, personally I prefer auto offroad.

You get engine breaking if you select the gears eg put box in 1 or 2 and you'll get plenty of engine breaking.

if you can drive manuals are better in my opinion :behindsofa: :lol:
they are better for vehicle control though... just don't ride the clutch n make sure your in the right gear (just like driving on the road)
The advantage to the auto is you got instant power when you need it, if you get bogged down in the manual n you ain't quick enough yer stuffed :lol:

The temps my gearbox reached were too high for my liking, so had a custom gearbox oil cooler made up:

+1 for Auto.
Use a 1.6:1 transfer box to give you better engine braking.
If you are clumsy in a manual you are more likely to break diffs and shafts where as the auto takes up drive smoother.
Also not advised but I find you can also feather the brakes when descending in an auto without as much risk of locking up and sliding.

As everyone else is saying really, auto technically better, as you never "loose" control (technically while the clutch is pressed you are not in control)

I would always choose a manual!

My old Disco was an Auto and the fender is manual.
Much preferred the Auto for playing, but not for MPG - Comes down to personal taste.
