hi all i'm trying to find a solution for a friend of mine, he has a 94 disco 300tdi. When its been sat for a while the auto box will stick in 1st. At times this will happen for a quite a few miles, then once it has changed the first time, it will change properly from then onwards. He has had the transmition fluid and filters changed, this has not helped. Any help would be great as auto boxes are not my strong point:confused:

changing oil can stick govenor as oil is very detergent it can also cause spools in valve block to stick usually free off when box warms up ,if oil that came out wasnt blackish or burnt smelling ,cleaning or replacing govenor can help ,govenor is in rear housing of auto box and can be accessed by removing transfer box and rear housing

Hi James, the fluid that came out looked ok but did have a slight burnt smell, i think we may need to look towards the governor. what can cause the burnt smell? not had a lot of experience with autos

clutch plates in packs are paper thin and turn oil black when burnt out ,debris from partially burnt pack can block vavles and govenor

looks like we got to get the governor checked. are there any special tools needed for this job? also we are limited on time due to work and the vehicle is his only one so what sort of time scale would the job take. as i said b4 i have very limited experience on auto's
