Went to my brother last night for a very pleasant evening so the wife drove back. She's normally very good.

Parked to disco up on a slope touching the garage doors. turned it off and now the gear box is stuck in drive so I can not start it. cant roll it or do anything.

The current plan is for my brother to come round tonight and try to drag it out back wards.

Couple of issues

1 What would cause the gear box to get stuck and how do I fix

2 Will dragging it back wards damage the gear box.

it is an N reg 300 diesel.

on a downhill slope face touching garage doors. can't get it into neutral the gear selector will not move from drive to n

is it stuck in park ,if it is dont drag it at all , if you place in p on a hill then apply hand brake car will move a little due to the platy in drive train as hand brake works on the transmission not rear wheels , as p is a pawl pushed into a castleated wheel it has no give and the slight roll you get with disco hand brakes can heavily load it , if you cant reliev strees by putting t/box in neutral ,chock wheels and jack a wheel up

Transfer box can be changed now in neutral. The lever is basically stuck in drive can not move it out of dice either into neural or 3. My brother is coming round with his range rover to drag it out. Never heard of an auto locking up like this. Will a slight rock free it up.

if its just lever that wont move ,check button is releasing the lock ,dont drag anything till youve found out why lever wont move

Fixed it. Spoke to my dad and he had the same problem before. In the selector is small circlip that had come off which meant the lever was not lifting. Took the cover off the selector found the clip with a magnetic screw driver and refitted now working. Funny how such a tiny thing can disable a whole car like a landy :brushteeth::D
