right my landy 2.5td developed an exhaust blow but only under acceleration.took it to local garage who said it was the exhaust manifold so they have done this and charged me £115.after 20 mins of driving it was worce than b4 and there was now a loud squeeling noise which sounds like the turbo? took it bak to them and they have now said the exhaust manifold is pitted and that is why it is blowing and i need a new one they also say the turbo is on its way out,and by the way the viscous coupling on the fan is knackerd and will cost £180 for that alone.this all seems like unnessecary work to me the landy was runnin perfect and i done a 3hr offroad session with no problems overheating or problems with the fan the only reason i took it in was because the exhaust blow was a bit annoying,do you think they are trying it on?..or what are your thoughts

£180 for viscous coupling!!!!????? Bought a new one fer £30 from Paddocks. Old one were a **** to get off, but no where near 5 hours labour...

ya just found them on ebay for £29 and they do a special tool to get them off aswell..have since found the gasket for the manifold cost £3.84

My mate has a 2.5N/A and his does not have a viscus on the fan! Mine does however. But there is no difference in running temp!

Im not to sure why they have them in the first place? Is it because of wading through deep water??

Ask 'em why they charged you £115 to "repair" a manifold they knew couldn't be repaired, especially if they didn't tell you about the problem first and get your consent to proceed as a "suck it and see" fix.

To be blunt....I wouldn't be going back there if that were the case.

Before you go buying a special tool for removing it, make sure you get the right size. Newer VFU's have 32mm nut and older ones have 36mm nut so they'll end up ripping you off twice at £7.99 a pop when a low profile 12" adjustable is fine for removing them.

thanks all..i have now found a local landy garage that i didnt know was there and they have said hes talking ****..they can do me 2nd hand bits or new as they break landys aswell,my 2inch lift kit that uses suspension spacers the 1st garage wanted £250 to fit it the landy garage will do it for £70-£100 what a difference.will get my landy back tommorrow and wont be going back to them it will go to the local landy garage..

hi..yes they are in tidworth and they are called plain rovers.i can put tel num if interested.just 2 guys in a garage that know there stuff and they have shed loads of spares and landys out the back they can get parts off..if you want shag pile carpet showrooms and coffe machines dont go here, but if you want your landy sorted in a proper oily garage theese are your guys

just to prove how helpfull and resourcefull they are, when i was there today 2 guys came in and just been offroading and one had snapped some sort of brake line of the back axle and had broke down 20 yards away from the garage they went out got the part off and knocked a new line up from scratch using copper tubing and connectors pretty resourcefull and done on the spot!!!
