Was if needs a dpf then that has to be figured in. If that is the case then it is worth 3k

Guess so :(

Just reading about it, it is only a visual check, so if I was to take the DPF off, bash out the inside with a broom handle and then fit it back on they would be non the wiser. Obv would have to have the remap to tell the computers that it isn't there anymore.

If it came from the factory got to have it/them. That was the rules that just came into effect

Im not sure thats true.

If they said from this date forth then yes but I'm pretty sure they can not go back in time when its currently not an MOT fail.

I will be posing the question to my MOT bloke as well.

yes but it would be the same for all modifications done to all cars.

The government can't suddenly turn around and say you will now fail the MOT if you don't have the same tyres or wheels that it left the factory with.

Not yet! But they would like to!:eek:

I believe it is already very difficult to modify cars legally in many European countries.

There was a thing about some kind of test for the diesel exhaust to measure the amount of soot/particals.

They claim that uk has the worst air quality in the EU. This is why the heavy hand, where it was over looked before

Did my Disco 2 TD5 ever have a cat ? Doesn't need one for the emissions but it's all bollox anyhow. 4 or5 decent volcanic eruptions and the atmosphere gets more of a kicking than we can inflict.... :D

way it has been said is if it came from factory and is not there is a mot fail, no excuse.

I know, you keep saying!

What I'm telling you is that i don't think its as black and white as that. The point i made in an earlier post mentions all of that and the argument against it.

So with that in mind, moving on. The link that dippy posted does not mention Catalytic converters only DPF's, There not the same thing.

Do we have a link somewhere to any new legislation on catalytic converters?

I believe that the cats on diesels were early attempts at a DPF, they said they been in use for 20 years in various configurations.Does that included what everyone is calling a cat on diesels, or was it Land rover attempt to get it to work on both petrol and diesels with just one item? and meet emission requirements for the time

All I can give you is the fact that Cats are not DPFs ... but you know that ...

here is a linky : Home - MOT Testing Industry Portal , have a rummage and maybe you'll find some more info ... :)

I know! My car is only worth £5k, I can't spend £1200+ on a new DPF...

The good news is you don't need a new car if you have Euro III, you can retro-fit a DPF which does not need to inject diesel into the exhaust to regenerate.
20% of a DPF is more pocket friendly than 20% of a new car. I wonder what line the Treasury would take to this.

This begs the question why do the car manufacturers inject fuel for OE equipment when a DPF can be made to work without the fuel injection or special EOLYS type additives?

Diesel particulate filters: HJS's City-Filter® and SMF® sintered metal filter - HJS

its going to make motoring holidays a pain in the arse, you need a green environment sticker on your car in Germany, it has to meet Euro IV diesel standards, otherwise you're looking at a 40€ fine ...

This is the link I posted earlier to the official notice from VOSA:

It looks like catalytic convertors have been added.

That is what I have been saying cats on 300tdi was land rover attempt to a DPF, and was over looked. and new emission laws say if fitted from factory it needs to be there. So a lot of mot failures about to happen.

I don't think ,oh I am friends with mot inspector Joe Smukatelly he will pass me. What inspector would put his job at risk

The system on my car is a joke, it just puts more diesel in the engine chamber which eventually finds its way to the exhaust, as well as under the pistons and into the engine oil...

I'm not sure it even needs one as the engine meets the regs without the DPF, its the same engine as in the Mondeo and that doesn't have one.

Ah a link that works, the one at the start of this thread was broken yesterday.

So reading it, does that mean cars built as of the 14th february? or all cars tested after the 14th february.

Mine was MOT'd 2 weeks ago and passed the emissions with no CAT. As previously said though, its interpretation of the law.

We need an MOT tester on here to comment.

What inspector would put his job at risk

You would be surprised!

My daily drive passed an MOT 2 days before i bought it with 2mm of tread on all 4 tyres and penny washers welded together and used for wishbone bushes!

You have to remember an MOT is like a PAT test, its only good until it leaves the garage. You could have changed something after the tester passed it.

Despite having a series and having double checked the original parts catalogue am 100% sure i don't need a cat, i thought i'd help folks out so - i've started manufacturing CAT pipes to help pass MOT's - these can be purchased, or, rented for the purpose of the MOT only.
